We introduce a new characteristics of chaoticity of classical and quantum dynamical systems by defining the notion of the dissipation time which enables us to test how the system responds to the noise and in particular to measure the speed at which an initially closed, conservative system converges to the equilibrium when subjected to noisy (stochastic) pert

We prove Stanley's plethysm conjecture for the $2 \times n$ case, which composed with the work of Black and List provides another proof of Foulkes conjecture for the $2 \times n$ case. We prove that Friedlander's generalized isomorphism conjecture on the cohomology of algebraic groups, and hence the Isomorphism Conjecture for the cohomology of the complex algebraic Lie group G(C) made discrete, are equivalent to the existence of an isoperimetric inequality in the homological bar complex of G(F), where F is the algebraic closure of a fi

We show that the Benjamin-Ono equation is globally well-posed in $H^s(\R)$ for $s \geq 1$. This is despite the presence of the derivative in the non-linearity, which causes the solution map to not be uniformly continuous in $H^s$ for any $s$. The main new ingredient is to perform a global gauge transformation which almost entirely eliminates this derivative.
Non-commutative extensions of two-dimensional topological field theories and Hurwitz numbers for real algebraic curves

It is well-known that classical two-dimensional topological field theories are in one-to-one correspondence with commutative Frobenius algebras. An important extension of classical two-dimensional topological field theories is provided by open-closed two-dimensional topological field theories. The paper considers so-called adaptive estimations of regression, distribution density and spectral density of a Gaussian stationary sequence, asymptotically optimal in order at a growing number of observation on any regular subspace compactly embedded in space $L_2$, and confidence intervals, also adaptive, are constructed on their basis for the estimated f

The aim of this paper is investigating of Orlicz spaces with exponential function and correspondence Orlicz norm: we introduce some new equivalent norms, obtain the tail characterization, study the product of functions in Orlicz spaces etc. We consider some applications: estimation of operators in Orlicz spaces and problem of martingales convergence and dive

Maximum likelihood estimation in statistics leads to the problem of maximizing a product of powers of polynomials. We study the algebraic degree of the critical equations of this optimization problem. This degree is related to the number of bounded regions in the corresponding arrangement of hypersurfaces, and to the Euler characteristic of the complexified

In this paper non-asymptotic exponential estimates are derived for the tail distribution of polynomial martingale differences in terms unconditional tails distributions of summands. Applications are considered in the theory of polynomials on independent random variables, to the theory of U-statistics, multiply martingale series and in the theory of weak comp

We show in ZFC, that the depth of ultraproducts of Boolean Algebras may be bigger than the ultraproduct of the depth of those Boolean Algebras.

We investigate a relations of almost isometric embedding and almost isometry between metric spaces and prove that with respect to these relations: (1) There is a countable universal metric space. (2) There may exist fewer than continuum separable metric spaces on aleph_1 so that every separable metric space is almost isometrically embedded into one of them w

In this paper the standard prisoners' dilemma is embedded in environmental conditions in which the interaction takes place. This provides a theoretical background to the analysis of the empirical studies which indicate that including additional factors when considering an alliance is very important. We show that such an approach, though theoretically sim

A certain type of integer grid, called here an echelon grid, is an object found both in coherent systems whose components have a finite or countable number of levels and in algebraic geometry. If α=(α_1,...,α_d) is an integer vector representing the state of a system, then the corresponding algebraic object is a monomial x_1^{α_1}... x_d^{α_d} in the indeter

We establish weak convergence of the empirical process on the spherical harmonics of a Gaussian random field in the presence of an unknown angular power spectrum. This result suggests various Gaussianity tests with an asymptotic justification. The issue of testing for Gaussianity on isotropic spherical random fields has recently received strong empirical att

We present the asymptotic distribution theory for a class of increment-based estimators of the fractal dimension of a random field of the form g{X(t)}, where g:R\to R is an unknown smooth function and X(t) is a real-valued stationary Gaussian field on R^d, d=1 or 2, whose covariance function obeys a power law at the origin. The relevant theoretical framework

This paper studies the least upper bounds on coverage probabilities of the empirical likelihood ratio confidence regions based on estimating equations. The implications of the bounds on empirical likelihood inference are also discussed.

Empirical-likelihood-based confidence intervals for a mean were introduced by Owen [Biometrika 75 (1988) 237-249], where at least a finite second moment is required. This excludes some important distributions, for example, those in the domain of attraction of a stable law with index between 1 and 2. In this article we use a method similar to Qin and Wong [Sc

This article examines density estimation by combining a parametric approach with a nonparametric factor. The plug-in parametric estimator is seen as a crude estimator of the true density and is adjusted by a nonparametric factor. The nonparametric factor is derived by a criterion called local L_2-fitting. A class of estimators that have multiplicative adjust

The concept of biased data is well known and its practical applications range from social sciences and biology to economics and quality control. These observations arise when a sampling procedure chooses an observation with probability that depends on the value of the observation. This is an interesting sampling procedure because it favors some observations
