We prove that the convolution of a selfdecomposable distribution with its background driving law is again selfdecomposable if and only if the background driving law is s-selfdecomposable. We will refer to this as the factorization property of a selfdecomposable distribution; let L^f denote the set of all these distributions. The algebraic structure and vario

We prove that the Hausdorff dimension of the trace of SLE_6 is almost surely 7/4 and give a more direct derivation of the result (due to Lawler-Schramm-Werner) that the dimension of its boundary is 4/3. We also prove that, for all κ<8, the SLE_κ trace has cut-points.

In ten space-time dimensions the number of Majorana-Weyl fermions is not conserved, not only during the time evolution, but also by rotations. As a consequence the empty Fock state is not rotationally symmetric. We construct explicitly the simplest singlet state which provides the starting point for building up invariant SO(9) subspaces. Recently a number of authors have used a system of branes and antibranes at finite temperature for microscopic modeling of non-extremal black holes in string theory. Based on the QCD dipole picture of the BFKL Pomeron, we investigate the role played by the saturation scale, Q_{sat}, in obtaining physical values for the affective strong coupling in phenomenological fits to small-x HERA data. The deuteron (nuclei) birefringence effect in a matter and in an electric field and the searches for an EDM of a deuteron (nucleus) rotating in a storage ring
hep-phV. G. Baryshevsky, A. R. Shirvel
The phenomena of deuteron birefringence in a matter and an electric field should be accurately considered when preparing experiments for the EDM search with a storage ring, because they could imitate the spin rotation due to the EDM. Moreover, study of these effects in such experiments could provide to measure both the spin-dependent part of the amplitude of

Generic cosmological models in non-critical string theory have a time-dependent dilaton background at a late epoch. The cosmological deceleration parameter Q_0 is given by the square of the string coupling, g_s^2, up to a negative sign. We present results from an analysis of B0 -> rho+rho- using 232 million Upsilon(4S) decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $B$ Factory at SLAC. We measure the longitudinal polarization fraction f_L = 0.978 +- 0.014 (stat) +0.021 -0.029 (syst) and the CP-violating parameters SLong = -0.33 +- 0.24 (stat) +0.08 -0.14 (syst) and

The spin of a confined electron, when oriented originally in some direction, will lose memory of that orientation after some time. Physical mechanisms leading to this relaxation of spin memory typically involve either coupling of the electron spin to its orbital motion or to nuclear spins. Relaxation of confined electron spin has been previously measured onl

The phase diagram of a polydisperse hard sphere system is examined by numerical minimization of a discretized form of the Ramakrishnan-Yussouff free energy functional. Crystalline and glassy local minima of the free energy are located and the phase diagram in the density-polydispersity plane is mapped out by comparing the free energies of different local min

We present an empirical method for converting single-point near-infrared J, H, and K measurements of fundamental-mode Cepheids to mean magnitudes, using complete light curves in V or I bands. The algorithm is based on the template light curves in the near-infrared bandpasses. The mean uncertainty of the method is estimated to about 0.03 mag, which is smaller

We present here analytic expressions for the generalised Lindhard function, also referred to as Fermi Gas polarisation propagator, in a relativistic kinematic framework and in the presence of various resonances and vertices. Particular attention is payed to its real part, since it gives rise to substantial difficulties in the definition of the currents enter

Let $S = K[x_1, ..., x_n]$ denote the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ with each $°x_i = 1$. Let $Δ$ be a simplicial complex on $[n] = \{1, ..., n \}$ and $I_Δ\subset S$ its Stanley--Reisner ideal. We write $Δ^e$ for the exterior algebraic shifted complex of $Δ$ and $Δ^c$ for a combinatorial shifted complex of $Δ$. Let $β_{ii+j}(I_Δ) = \dim_

We formulate a variational principle for a collection of projectors in an indefinite inner product space. The existence of minimizers is proved in various situations.

We investigate the scaling of the entanglement entropy in an infinite translational invariant Fermionic system of any spatial dimension. The states under consideration are ground states and excitations of tight-binding Hamiltonians with arbitrary interactions. We show that the entropy of a finite region typically scales with the area of the surface times a l

The quantum relative entropy is frequently used as a distance, or distinguishability measure between two quantum states. In this paper we study the relation between this measure and a number of other measures used for that purpose, including the trace norm distance. More precisely, we derive lower and upper bounds on the relative entropy in terms of various

For a compact, connected, simply-connected Lie group G, the loop group LG is the infinite-dimensional Hilbert Lie group consisting of H^1-Sobolev maps S^1-->G. The geometry of LG and its homogeneous spaces is related to representation theory and has been extensively studied. The space of based loops Omega(G) is an example of a homogeneous space of $LG$ and h

The isolated horizon formalism recently introduced by Ashtekar et al. aims at providing a quasi-local concept of a black hole in equilibrium in an otherwise possibly dynamical spacetime. In this formalism, a hierarchy of geometrical structures is constructed on a null hypersurface. On the other side, the 3+1 formulation of general relativity provides a power
Vacuum Polarization of a Massless Scalar Field in the Background of a Global Monopole with Finite Core

In this paper we analyze the vacuum polarization effects of a massless scalar field in the background of a global monopole considering a inner structure to it. Specifically we investigate the effect of its structure on the vacuum expectation value of the square of the field operator, $<\hatΦ^2(x)>$, admitting a non-minimal coupling between the field with the

We study the dynamics of moving discrete breathers in an interfaced piecewise DNA molecule. This is a DNA chain in which all the base pairs are identical and there exists an interface such that the base pairs dipole moments at each side are oriented in opposite directions. The Hamiltonian of the Peyrard--Bishop model is augmented with a term that includes th

We investigate OZI rule violation in omega and phi-meson photoproduction off nucleons. Data on the total cross sections indicate a large phi/omega ratio of about 0.8 at the maximal available photon energy that is in good agreement with expectations from QCD. On the other hand, data at large four momentum transfer exhibit a ratio of about 0.07, showing that t

The band calculation scheme for $f$ electron compounds is developed on the basis of the dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) and the LMTO method. The auxiliary impurity problem is solved by a method named as NCA$f^{2}$v', which includes the correct exchange process of the $f^{1} \to f^{2}$ virtual excitation as the vertex correction to the non-crossing app

We discuss metric and combinatorial properties of Thompson's group T, including normal forms for elements and unique tree pair diagram representatives. We relate these properties to those of Thompson's group F when possible, and highlight combinatorial differences between the two groups. We define a set of unique normal forms for elements of T arisin

In the article, correct method for the kinetic Boltzmann equation asymptotic solution is formulated, the Hilbert method and the Enskog error are considered. The equations system of multi-component nonequilibrium gas-dynamics is derived, that corresponds to the first order in the approximate method for solution of the kinetic Boltzmann equation within the Str

We study a reduction of deformation parameters in non(anti)commutative N=2 harmonic superspace to those in non(anti)commutative N=1 superspace. By this reduction we obtain the exact gauge and supersymmetry transformations in the Wess-Zumino gauge of non(anti)commutative N=2 supersymmetric U(1) gauge theory defined in the deformed harmonic superspace. We also

We reanalyze published magnetization data and demonstrate that the conclusion of the original authors, claiming enhanced two-dimensional properties of the cuprate superconductor Tl-1234, is not supported by the experimental results. Our analysis shows that the magnetic field dependence of the mixed-state magnetization for this particular sample is amazingly

Neutrinos may possibly violate the spin-statistics theorem, and hence obey Bose statistics or mixed statistics despite having spin half. We find the generalized equilibrium distribution function of neutrinos which depends on a single fermi-bose parameter, κ, and interpolates continuously between the bosonic and fermionic distributions when κchanges from -1 t

We make a theoretical study of the s-wave interaction of the nonet of vector mesons with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons starting from a chiral invariant Lagrangian and implementing unitarity in coupled channels. By looking for poles in the unphysical Riemann sheets of the unitarized scattering amplitudes, we get two octets and one singlet of axial-vector d

We derive essential elements of quantum mechanics from a parametric structure extending that of traditional mathematical statistics. The basic setting is a set $\mathcal{A}$ of incompatible experiments, and a transformation group $G$ on the cartesian product $Π$ of the parameter spaces of these experiments. The set of possible parameters is constrained to li
