The one-dimensional motion of any number $\cN$ of particles in the field of many independent waves (with strong spatial correlation) is formulated as a second-order system of stochastic differential equations, driven by two Wiener processes. In the limit of vanishing particle mass ${\mathfrak{m}} \to 0$, or equivalently of large noise intensity, we show that

We construct a Laplace isospectral deformation of metrics on an orbifold quotient of a nilmanifold. Each orbifold in the deformation contains singular points with order two isotropy. Isospectrality is obtained by modifying a generalization of Sunada's Theorem due to DeTurck and Gordon.

We survey motivation, basic ideas and physical consequences of a theory where the underlying action involves terms both with the usual volume element $\sqrt{-g}d^{4}x$ and with the new one $Φd^{4}x={4!}dφ_{1}\wedge dφ_{2}\wedge dφ_{3}\wedge dφ_{4}$. The latter may be interpreted as the 4-form determined on the 4-D space-time manifold (not necessary Riemannia

One observes strong suppression effects for hard probes, e.g. the production of J/psi or high-pT particles, in nucleus-nucleus (AA) collisions at RHIC. Surprisingly, the magnitude of the suppression is quite similar to that at SPS. We examine the connection between the dwell time of a quantum particle in a region of space and flux-flux correlations at the boundaries. A bilayer lens is proposed based on transformation optics. It is shown that Pendry's perfect lens, perfect bilayer lens made of indefinite media, and the concept of compensated media are well unified under the scope of the proposed bilayer lens. We offer a clarification of the significance of the indicated paper of H. Cheng. Cheng's conclusions about the attractive nature of Casimir forces between parallel plates are valid beyond the particular model in which he derived them; they are likely to be relevant to other recent literature on the effects of hidden dimensions on Casimir forces.

Enhanced paraconductivity-like fluctuations in the radio frequency spectra of ultracold Fermi atoms
cond-mat.otherPierbiagio Pieri, Andrea Perali, Giancarlo Calvanese Strinati
Ultracold Fermi atoms allow the realization of the crossover from Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superconductivity to Bose- Einstein condensation (BEC), by varying with continuity the attraction between fermions of different species. In this context, radio frequency (RF) spectroscopy provides a microscopic probe to infer the nature of fermionic pairing. In

Folding kinetics of a lattice model of protein is studied. It uses the Random Energy Model for the intrachain couplings and a temperature dependent free energy of solvation derived from a realistic hydration model of apolar solutes. The folding times are computed using Monte Carlo simulations in the region of the phase diagram where the chain occurs in the n

We propose a new adiabatic algorithm for the unsorted database search problem. This algorithm saves two thirds of qubits than Grover's algorithm in realizations. Meanwhile, we analyze the time complexity of the algorithm by both perturbative method and numerical simulation. The results show it provides a better speedup than the previous adiabatic search

In this paper we derive the tail asymptotics of a Kotz Type III elliptical random vector. As an application of our asymptotic expansion we derive an approximation for the conditional excess distribution. Furthermore, we discuss the asymptotic dependence of Kotz Type III triangular arrays and provide some details on the estimation of conditional excess distri
The Numerical Solution of Scalar Field for Nariai Case in 5D Ricci-flat SdS Black String Space with Polynomial Approximation

As one exact candidate of the higher dimensional black hole, the 5D Ricci-flat Schwarzschild-de Sitter black string space presents something interesting. In this paper, we give a numerical solution to the real scalar field around the Nariai black hole by the polynomial approximation. Unlike the previous tangent approximation, this fitting function makes a pe

A metamaterial frequency-selective super-absorber that has absorbing cross section significantly bigger than the geometric cross section
physics.opticsJack Ng, Huanyang Chen, C. T. Chan
Using the idea of transformation optics, we propose a metamaterial device that serves as a frequency-selective super-absorber, which consists of an absorbing core material coated with a shell of isotropic double negative metamaterial. For a fixed volume, the absorption cross section of the super-absorber can be made arbitrarily large at one frequency. The do
The Dynamic Behavior of Quantum Statistical Entropy in 5D Ricci-flat Black String with Thin-layer Approach
gr-qcMolin Liu, Hongya Liu
In this paper, the statistical-mechanical entropies of 5D Ricci-flat black string is calculated through the wave modes of the quantum field with improved thin-layer brick-wall method. The modes along the fifth dimension are semi-classically quantized by Randall-Sundrum mass relationship. We use the two-dimensional area to describe this black string's ent

The drag on a golf ball can be reduced by dimpling the surface. There have been few studies, primarily experimental, that provide quantitative information on the details of the drag reduction mechanisms. To illuminate the underlying mechanisms, Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) is applied to the flow around a golf ball using an immersed boundary method. Comp
Effects of Rotation on Standing Accretion Shock Instability in Nonlinear Phase for Core-Collapse Supernovae
astro-phWakana Iwakami, Kei Kotake, Naofumi Ohnishi, Shoichi Yamada
We studied the effects of rotation on standing accretion shock instability (SASI) by performing three-dimensional hydrodynamics simulations. Taking into account a realistic equation of state and neutrino heating/cooling, we prepared a spherically symmmetric and steady accretion flow through a standing shock wave onto a proto-neutron star (PNS). When the SASI

Springer varieties are studied because their cohomology carries a natural action of the symmetric group $S_n$ and their top-dimensional cohomology is irreducible. In his work on tangle invariants, Khovanov constructed a family of Springer varieties $X_n$ as subvarieties of the product of spheres $(S^2)^n$. We show that if $X_n$ is embedded antipodally in $(S

We derive a master stability function (MSF) for synchronization in networks of coupled dynamical systems with small but arbitrary parametric variations. Analogous to the MSF for identical systems, our generalized MSF simultaneously solves the linear stability problem for near-synchronous states (NSS) for all possible connectivity structures. We also derive a

We investigate the hybrid exotic meson with $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ within the framework of an AdS/QCD model. Introducing a holographic field dual to the operator for hybrid exotic meson, we obtain the eigen-value equation for its mass. Fixing all free parameters by QCD observables such as the $ρ$-meson mass, we predict the masses of the hybrid exotic meson. The res

Starting from the Hamiltonian equation of motion in QCD we find a single variable light-front equation for QCD which determines the eigenspectrum and the light-front wavefunctions of hadrons for general spin and orbital angular momentum. This light-front wave equation is equivalent to the equations of motion which describe the propagation of spin-$J$ modes o

Six contact binaries lacking a period analysis have been chosen to search for the presence of a third body. The O-C diagrams of these binaries were analyzed with the least-squares method by using all available times of minima. Ten new minima times, obtained from our observations, were included in the present research. The Light-Time Effect was adopted for th
