We consider exciton- and light-induced current in molecular nanojunctions. Using a model comprising a two two-level sites bridge connecting free electron reservoirs we show that the exciton coupling between the sites of the molecular bridge can markedly effect the source-drain current through a molecular junction. In some cases when excited and unexcited sta

This thesis concerns sequential-access data compression, i.e., by algorithms that read the input one or more times from beginning to end. In one chapter we consider adaptive prefix coding, for which we must read the input character by character, outputting each character's self-delimiting codeword before reading the next one. We show how to encode and de

In the last decade it became apparent that a large number of the most interesting structures and phenomena of the world can be described by networks: separable elements, with connections (or interactions) between certain pairs of them. These huge networks pose exciting challenges for the mathematician. Graph Theory (the mathematical theory of networks) faces
Quadratic algebras for three dimensional non degenerate superintegrable systems with quadratic integrals of motion
math-phY. Tanoudis, C. Daskaloyannis
The three dimensional superintegrable systems with quadratic integrals of motion have five functionally independent integrals, one among them is the Hamiltonian. Kalnins, Kress and Miller have proved that in the case of non degenerate potentials there is a sixth quadratic integral, which is linearly independent of the other integrals. The existence of this s

We present the results of spectroscopic and morphological studies of the galaxy UGC7388 with the 8.1-m Gemini North telescope. Judging by its observed characteristics, UGC7388 is a giant late-type spiral galaxy seen almost edge-on. The main body of the galaxy is surrounded by two faint (μ(B) ~ 24 and μ(B) ~ 25.5) extended (~20-30 kpc) loop-like structures. A

Both classical and virtual knots arise as formal Gauss diagrams modulo some abstract moves corresponding to Reidemeister moves. If we forget about both over/under crossings structure and writhe numbers of knots modulo the same Reidemeister moves, we get a dramatic simplification of virtual knots, which kills all classical knots. However, many virtual knots s

In this paper exponential ratio and exponential product type estimators using two auxiliary variables are proposed for estimating unknown population variance $S_y^2$. Problem is extended to the case of two-phase sampling. Theoretical results are supported by an empirical study.

The theory of confinement and deconfinement is discussed as based on the properties of the QCD vacuum. The latter are described by field correlators of colour-electric and colour-magnetic fields in the vacuum, which can be calculated analytically and on the lattice. As a result one obtains a self-consistent theory of the confined region in the (mu,T) plane w

We present several domain decomposition algorithms for sequential and parallel minimization of functionals formed by a discrepancy term with respect to data and total variation constraints. The convergence properties of the algorithms are analyzed. We provide several numerical experiments, showing the successful application of the algorithms for the restorat

We derive restrictions on collisional reconnection under the conditions in near-Earth space. The arguments are based on the precise definition and estimates of the resistive scale $L_η$ at the ion inertial site in collisionless reconnection, i.e. in the so-called `ion diffusion region' which is the region of Hall-current flow.

We have investigated the presence of dense gas toward the radio source Cen A by looking at the absorption of the HCO+ and HCN (3-2) lines in front of the bright continuum source with the Submillimeter Array. We detect narrow HCO+ (3-2) absorption, and tentatively HCN (3-2), close to the systemic velocity. For both molecules, the J=3-2 absorption is much weak
Luminous Infrared Galaxies with the Submillimeter Array: II. Comparing the CO(3-2) Sizes and Luminosities of Local and High-Redshift Luminous Infrared Galaxies

We present a detailed comparison of the CO(3-2) emitting molecular gas between a local sample of luminous infrared galaxies (U/LIRGs) and a high redshift sample that comprises submm selected galaxies (SMGs), quasars, and Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs). The U/LIRG sample consists of our recent CO(3-2) survey using the Submillimeter Array while the CO(3-2) data f

We prove that for every simple theory $T$ (or even simple thick compact abstract theory) there is a (unique) compact abstract theory $T^\fP$ whose saturated models are the lovely pairs of $T$. Independence-theoretic results that were proved in \cite{ppv:pairs} when $T^\fP$ is a first order theory are proved for the general case: in particular $T^\fP$ is simp

We prove that the definition of supersimplicity in metric structures from \cite{pezz:Morley} is equivalent to an \textit{a priori} stronger variant. This stronger variant is then used to prove that if $T$ is a supersimple Hausdorff cat then so is its theory of lovely pairs.

Maximum likelihood estimations for the parameters of extreme value distributions are discussed in this paper using fixed point iteration. The commonly used numerical approach for addressing this problem is the Newton-Raphson approach which requires differentiation unlike the fixed point iteration which is also easier to implement. Graphical approaches are al
Non-Markovian Analysis of the Phase Damped Jaynes-Cummings Model in the Presence of a Classical Homogeneous Gravitational Field
quant-phM. Mohammadi
In this paper, the non-Markovian dissipative dynamics of the phase damped Jaynes-Cummings model in the presence of a classical homogeneous gravitational field will be analyzed. The model consists of a moving two-level atom simultaneously exposed to the gravitational field and a single-mode traveling radiation field in the presence of a non-Markovian phase da
The effective mass of atom-radiation field system and the cavity-field Wigner distribution in the presence of a homogeneous gravitational field in the Jaynes-Cummings model
quant-phM. Mohammadi
The effective mass that approximately describes the effect of a classical homogeneous gravitational field on an interacting atom-radiation field system is determined within the framework of the Jaynes-Cummings model. By taking into account both the atomic motion and gravitational field, a full quantum treatment of the internal and external dynamics of the at

This book is a continuation of the book n-linear algebra of type I and its applications. Most of the properties that could not be derived or defined for n-linear algebra of type I is made possible in this new structure: n-linear algebra of type II which is introduced in this book. In case of n-linear algebra of type II we are in a position to define linear f

Little Higgs scenario provides us a new solution for the hierarchy problem of the Standard Model. The Littlest Higgs model with T-parity, which is one of models in the scenario, solves the dark matter problem in our universe. In this talk, we discuss how accurately the property of the dark matter is determined at linear collides. We also mention how precisel

We discuss the relation between Devaney chaos in the base system and Devaney chaos in its induced hyperspace system. We show that the latter need not imply the former. We also argue that this implication is not true even in the strengthened condition. Additionally we give an equivalent condition for the periodically density in the hyperspace system.

We investigate a method to produce photon pairs by four-wave mixing in photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). By controlling the wavelength of the pump light, which determines the phase matching condition for four-wave mixing, we can obtain a broader spectrum of photon pairs than undesired Raman-scattered photons. We observe two-photon interference of photon pairs
Hyperdeformation in the cranked relativistic mean field theory: the Z=40-58 part of nuclear chart

The systematic investigation of hyperdeformation (HD) at high spin in the $Z=40-58$ part of the nuclear chart has been performed in the framework of the cranked relativistic mean field theory. The properties of the moments of inertia of the HD bands, the role of the single-particle and necking degrees of freedom at HD, the spins at which the HD bands become

The analysis of the terminating bands has been performed in the relativistic mean field framework. It was shown that nuclear magnetism provides an additional binding to the energies of the specific configuration and this additional binding increases with spin and has its {\it maximum} exactly at the terminating state. This suggests that the terminating state

A systematics search for the nuclei in which the observation of discrete hyperdeformed (HD) bands may be feasible with existing detector facilities has been performed in the Cd isotopes within the framework of cranked relativistic mean field theory. It was found that the $^{96}$Cd nucleus is a doubly magic HD nucleus due to large proton Z=48 and neutron N=48

This note reports on an independent implementation of calculating one-loop amplitudes semi-numerically using generalized unitarity techniques. The algorithm implemented in form of a C++ code closely follows the method by Ellis, Giele, Kunszt and Melnikov. For the case of gluons, the algorithm is briefly reviewed. Double-precision results are presented docume

In general relativity, the masslessness of gravitons can be traced to symmetry under diffeomorphisms. Here we consider another possibility, whereby the masslessness arises from spontaneous violation of Lorentz symmetry.

The aim of this paper is to present a kinetic numerical scheme for the computations of transient pressurised flows in closed water pipes. Firstly, we detail the mathematical model written as a conservative hyperbolic partial differentiel system of equations, and the we recall how to obtain the corresponding kinetic formulation. Then we build the kinetic sche
