We demonstrate that the precessional frequencies of vortices in Bose Einstein condensates (BECs) are determined by a conservation law, and not by the lowest lying excitation energy mode. We determine the precessional frequency for a single off-axis vortex and vortex lattices in BECs using the continuity equation, and solve this self-consistently with the tim

When, at the end of the year 1915, both Einstein and Hilbert arrived at what were named the field equations of general relativity, both of them thought that their fundamental achievement entailed, inter alia, the realisation of a theory of gravitation whose underlying group was the group of general coordinate transformations. This group theoretical property

We examine decays of a spin-1 bottomonium into a pair of light scalar Dark Matter (DM) particles, assuming that Dark Matter is produced due to exchange of heavy degrees of freedom. We address the notion of association of sum- and max- stable processes from the perspective of linear and max-linear isometries. We establish the appealing results that these two classes of isometries can be identified on a proper space (the extended positive ratio space). This yields a natural way to associate to any max-stable process a sum-stable process.

The recently formulated Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson (BLG) theory in three dimensions is described in terms of a constrained chiral superfield in light-cone superspace. We discuss the use of Superconformal symmetry to determine the form of its interactions, in complete analogy with N=4 SuperYang-Mills in four dimensions.

We compute the l-modular decomposition matrices of the simple Ree groups 2F4(q^2), where q^2=2^{2n+1} and n is a positive integer, for all primes l > 3 up to some entries in the unipotent characters. Using these matrices we determine the smallest degree of a non-trivial irreducible l-modular representation of 2F4(q^2) for all primes l > 3. We also obtain res

Combination of Fresnel Zone Plates (FZP) can make an excellent telescope for imaging in X-rays. We present here the results of our experiments with several pairs of tungsten made Fresnel Zone plates in presence of an X-ray source kept at a distance of about 45 feet. The quasi-parallel beam allowed us to study sources placed on the axis as well as off the axi

In this paper we study decoherence in the quantum walk on the line. We generalize the method of decoherent coin quantum walk, introduced by Brun et al [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 67}, 32304 (2003)]. Our analytical expressions are applicable for all kinds of decoherence. As an example of the coin-position decoherence, we study the broken line quantum walk and compare

Aims. We analyze observational data from 4 instruments to study the correlations between chromospheric emission, spanning the heights from the temperature minimum region to the middle chromosphere, and photospheric magnetic field. Methods: The data consist of radio images at 3.5 mm from the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Array (BIMA), UV images at 1600 A from TR

Various infinite-dimensional versions of the Calogero-Moser operator are discussed. The related class of Jack-Laurent symmetric functions is studied. In the special case when parameter k=-1 the analogue of Jacobi-Trudy formula is given and the relation with representation theory of Lie superlagebra gl(m,n) is discussed.

We say that a cyclotomic polynomial Phi_{n}(x) has order three if n is the product of three distinct primes, p<q<r. Let A(n) be the largest absolute value of a coefficient of Phi_{n}(x) and M(p) be the maximum of A(pqr). In 1968, Sister Marion Beiter conjectured that A(pqr)<=(p+1)/2. In 2008, Yves Gallot and Pieter Moree showed that the conjecture is false f

Taking Mn doped Germanium as an example, we evoke the consideration of a two-band-like conduction in diluted ferromagnetic semiconductor (FMS). The main argument for claiming Ge:Mn as a FMS is the occurrence of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE). Usually, the reported AHE (1) is observable at temperatures above 10 K, (2) exhibits no hysteresis, and (3) changes

This paper is a fusion of a survey and a research article. We focus on certain rigidity phenomena in function spaces associated to a symplectic manifold. Our starting point is a lower bound obtained in an earlier paper with Zapolsky for the uniform norm of the Poisson bracket of a pair of functions in terms of symplectic quasi-states. After a short review of

Scientific computing often requires the availability of a massive number of computers for performing large scale experiments. Traditionally, these needs have been addressed by using high-performance computing solutions and installed facilities such as clusters and super computers, which are difficult to setup, maintain, and operate. Cloud computing provides
