Magnetism of Finite Graphene Samples: Mean-Field Theory compared with Exact Diagonalization and Quantum Monte Carlo Simulation
cond-mat.str-elHélène Feldner, Zi Yang Meng, Andreas Honecker, Daniel Cabra
The magnetic properties of graphene on finite geometries are studied using a self-consistent mean-field theory of the Hubbard model. We discuss how generalized multiresolution analyses (GMRAs), both classical and those defined on abstract Hilbert spaces, can be classified by their multiplicity functions $m$ and matrix-valued filter functions $H$. Given a natural number valued function $m$ and a system of functions encoded in a matrix $H$ satisfying certain conditions, a construction proce

We theoretically study the polarization entanglement of photons generated by the biexciton cascade in a GaAs/InAs semiconductor quantum dot (QD), located in a nano cavity. A detailed analysis of the complex interplay between photon- and carrier coherences and phonons which occurs during the cascade allows us to clearly identify where the entanglement is gene

We describe domain walls that live on $A_2$ and $A_3$ singularities. The walls are BPS if the singularity is resolved and non--BPS if it is deformed and fibered. We show that these domain walls may interpolate between vacua that support monopoles and/or vortices.

One of the most used approaches in simulating materials is the tight-binding approximation. When using this method in a material simulation, it is necessary to compute the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the Hamiltonian describing the system. In general, the system possesses few explicit symmetries. Due to them, the problem has many degenerate eigenvalues. T
Linear locally nilpotent derivations and the classical invariant theory, I: The Poincare series
math.AGLeonid Bedratyuk
By using classical invariant theory approach a formulas for computation of the Poincare series of the kernel of linear locally nilpotent derivations is found.

Loynes' distribution, which characterizes the one dimensional marginal of the stationary solution to Lindley's recursion, possesses an ultimately exponential tail for a large class of increment processes. If one can observe increments but does not know their probabilistic properties, what are the statistical limits of estimating the tail exponent of

We give combinatorial criteria for predicting the transcendental weight of Feynman integrals of certain graphs in $ϕ^4$ theory. By studying spanning forest polynomials, we obtain operations on graphs which are weight-preserving, and a list of subgraphs which induce a drop in the transcendental weight.

We consider the Isgur-Wise function xi(omega) within a new modified version of a heavy-light chiral quark model. While early versions of such models gave too small absolute value of the slope, namely xi'(1) of about -0.4 to -0.3, we show how extended version(s) may lead to values around -1, in better agreement with recent measurements. This is obtained b

Aims. This work reports radiative transition rates and electron impact excitation collision strengths for levels of the 3s23p, 3s3p2, 3s24s, and 3s23d configurations of Siii. Methods. The radiative data were computed using the Thomas-Fermi-Dirac-Amaldi central potential, but with the modifications introduced by Bautista (2008) that account for the effects of

We calculate the vacuum-expectation-value, the meson mass and the meson decay constant to next-to-next-to-leading-order in the chiral expansion for QCD-like theories with general $N_F$ degenerate flavours for the cases with a complex representation, a real and a pseudoreal representation, i.e. with global symmetry and breaking patters $SU(N_F)_L\times SU(N_F
Modeling columnar thin films as platforms for surface-plasmonic-polaritonic optical sensing
physics.opticsTom G. Mackay, Akhlesh Lakhtakia
Via exploitation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), columnar thin films (CTFs) are attractive potential platforms for optical sensing as their relative permittivity dyadic and porosity can be tailored to order. Nanoscale model parameters of a CTF were determined from its measured relative permittivity dyadic, after inverting the Bruggeman homogenization f

The majority of the observed planetary nebulae exhibit elliptical or bipolar structures. Theoretical modeling has indicated that magnetically collimated jets may be responsible for the formation of the non-spherical planetary nebulae. The aim of this project is to measure the Zeeman splitting caused by the magnetic field in the OH and H2O maser regions occur

The fractured Boer-Mulders functions describe an inriguing class of polarization effects for the production of baryons in the target fragmentation region of deep-inelastic processes. These functions characterize transverse momentum asymmetries related to the spin orientation for different flavors of axial vector diquarks in an unpolarized ensemble of protons

This paper describes a hybrid system for WSD, presented to the English all-words and lexical-sample tasks, that relies on two different unsupervised approaches. The first one selects the senses according to mutual information proximity between a context word a variant of the sense. The second heuristic analyzes the examples of use in the glosses of the sense

This paper reports the results obtained on the photometric redshifts measurement and accuracy, and cluster tomography in the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS) fields. Photometric redshifts were computed using two independent codes (Hyperz and G. Rudnick's code). The accuracy of photometric redshifts was assessed by comparing our estimates with the spec

The "precision" frontier, which is closely related to the "intensity" frontier, provides a complementary path to the discovery of physics beyond the Standard Model. Several examples of discoveries that would change our view of the physical world are: Charged lepton flavor violation, e.g. muon electron conversion; the discovery of a permanent

This paper proves two theorems. The first of these simplifies and lends clarity to the previous characterizations of the invariant subspaces of $S$, the operator of multiplication by the coordinate function $z$, on $L^2(\mathbb{T};\mathbb{C}^n)$, where $\mathbb{T}$ is the unit circle, by characterizing the invariant subspaces of $S^n$ on scalar valued $L^p$
