We study the pullback maps on cohomology groups for equivariant rational maps (i.e., monomial maps) on toric varieties. Our method is based on the intersection theory on toric varieties. We use the method to determine the dynamical degrees of monomial maps and compute the degrees of the Cremona involution.

We consider a four-terminal Aharonov-Bohm interference setup formed out of two edges of a quantum spin Hall insulator, supporting helical Luttinger liquids (HLLs). We show that the temperature and bias dependence of the interference oscillations are linked to the amount of spin flips in tunneling between two HLLs which is a unique signature of a HLL. We pred

We generalize the ham sandwich theorem for the case of well separated measures. Given convex bodies $K_1,...,K_d$ in $\mathbb{R_d}$ and numbers $α_1,...,α_d \in [0, 1]$, we give a sufficient condition for existence and uniqueness of an (oriented)halfspace H with Vol($H \cap K_i$)= $α_i \dot$ Vol$K_i$ for every i. The result is extended from convex bodies to

The classical Erdős-Pósa theorem states that for each positive integer k there is an f(k) such that, in each graph G which does not have k+1 disjoint cycles, there is a blocker of size at most f(k); that is, a set B of at most f(k) vertices such that G-B has no cycles. We show that, amongst all such graphs on vertex set {1,..,n}, all but an exponentially sma

Chiral effective field theory (ChEFT) is a modern framework to analyze the properties of few-nucleon systems at low energies. It is based on the most general effective Lagrangian for pions and nucleons consistent with the chiral symmetry of QCD. We propose a new interpretation of doubly special relativity based on the distinction between the momenta and the translation generators in its phase space realization. In this paper we propose a set of consistency rules that disambiguate the meaning of UML composite structures. Our primary goal was to have an ope

The tripartite entanglement is examined when one of the three parties moves with a uniform acceleration with respect to other parties. As Unruh effect indicates, the tripartite entanglement exhibits a decreasing behavior with increasing the acceleration. Unlike the bipartite entanglement, however, the tripartite entanglement does not completely vanish in the

We observe topography induced spectral shifts using high resolution grating spectrometers which we attribute to the fact that the focal spot has a finite size. The topography induced spectral shifts depend on spectrometer grating orientation and numerical aperture of the microscope objective. This is demonstrated by spectroscopic imaging trenches in GaAs in

The ability to generate a change of the lattice parameter in a near-surface layer of a controllable thickness by ion implantation of strontium titanate is reported here using low energy He+ ions. The induced strain follows a distribution within a typical near-surface layer of 200 nm as obtained from structural analysis. Due to clamping effect from the underl
Magnetic and Electronic Raman Scattering at the Nodal Spin-Density-Wave Transition in BaFe2As2

Two magnon excitations and the nodal spin density wave (SDW) gap were observed in BaFe2As2 by Raman scattering. Below the SDW transition temperature (TSDW) nodal SDW gap opens together with new excitations in reconstructed electronic states. The two-magnon peak remains above TSDW and moreover the energy increases a little. The change from the long-range orde

There is a long standing challenge in lattice QCD concerning the relationship between $\mathcal{CP}$-symmetry and lattice chiral symmetry: naïvely the chiral symmetry transformations are not invariant under $\mathcal{CP}$. With results similar to a recent work by Igarashi and Pawlowski, I show that this is because charge conjugation symmetry has been incorre
Dynamic microscopic structures and dielectric response in the cubic-to-tetragonal phase transition for BaTiO3 studied by first-principles molecular dynamics simulation
cond-mat.mtrl-sciL. Xie, Y. L. Li, R. Yu, J. Zhu
The dynamic structures of the cubic and tetragonal phase in BaTiO3 and its dielectric response above the cubic-to-tetragonal phase transition temperature (Tp) are studied by first-principles molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. It's shown that the phase transition is due to the condensation of one of the transverse correlations. Calculation of the phonon

A combination of synchrotron X-ray, neutron powder diffraction, magnetization, heat capacity and electrical resistivity measurements reveals that NdMnAsO is an antiferromagnetic semiconductor with large Neel temperature (TN = 359(2) K). At room temperature the magnetic propagation vector k = 0 and the Mn moments are directed along the crystallographic c-axis
Temperature and Electron Density Dependence of Spin Relaxation in GaAs/AlGaAs Quantum Well
cond-mat.mes-hallL. F. Han, Y. G. Zhu, X. H. Zhang, P. H. Tan
Temperature and carrier density dependent spin dynamics for GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells (QWs) with different structural symmetry has been studied by using time-resolved Kerr rotation technique. The spin relaxation time is measured to be much longer for the symmetrically-designed GaAs quantum well comparing with the asymmetrical one, indicating the strong influ

Magnetic excitations in copper pyrimidine dinitrate, a spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic chain with alternating $g$-tensor and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions that exhibits a field-induced spin gap, are probed by means of pulsed-field electron spin resonance spectroscopy. In particular, we report on a minimum of the gap in the vicinity of the saturation field $H

A method for computing renormalization constants in the Rome Southampton scheme with volume sources and arbitrary momenta is described. This new method is found to enable controlled and precise continuum extrapolations and opens the way to compute the running of operators nonperturbatively in the Rome Southampton scheme. We describe this in detail and exhibi

A path in an edge-colored graph, where adjacent edges may be colored the same, is a rainbow path if no two edges of it are colored the same. For any two vertices $u$ and $v$ of $G$, a rainbow $u-v$ geodesic in $G$ is a rainbow $u-v$ path of length $d(u,v)$, where $d(u,v)$ is the distance between $u$ and $v$. The graph $G$ is strongly rainbow connected if the

We investigate the properties of uniform doubly stochastic random matrices, that is non-negative matrices conditioned to have their rows and columns sum to 1. The rescaled marginal distributions are shown to converge to exponential distributions and indeed even large sub-matrices of side-length $o(n^{1/2-ε})$ behave like independent exponentials. We determin

These lectures are an introduction to gauge/gravity duality, presented at TASI 2010. The first three sections present the basics, focusing on $AdS_5 \times S^5$. The last section surveys a variety of ways to generate duals of reduced symmetry.

An edge-colored graph $G$ is rainbow connected if any two vertices are connected by a path whose edges have distinct colors. The rainbow connection number of a connected graph $G$, denoted by $rc(G)$, is the smallest number of colors that are needed in order to make $G$ rainbow connected. In this paper, we proved that $rc(G)\leq 3(n+1)/5$ for all $3$-connect

In this paper, we will show that the limit of some quasilocal mass integrals of the coordinate spheres in an asymptotically hyperbolic (AH) manifold is the mass integral of the AH manifold. This is the analogue of the well known result that the limit of the Brown-York mass of coordinate spheres is the ADM mass in an asymptotically flat manifold.

The energy of a simple graph $G$, denoted by $E(G)$, is defined as the sum of the absolute values of all eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix. Denote by $C_n$ the cycle, and $P_n^{6}$ the unicyclic graph obtained by connecting a vertex of $C_6$ with a leaf of $P_{n-6}$\,. Caporossi et al. conjecture that the unicyclic graph with maximal energy is $P_n^6$ for

The advent of large cosmological sky surveys - ushering in the era of precision cosmology - has been accompanied by ever larger cosmological simulations. The analysis of these simulations, which currently encompass tens of billions of particles and up to trillion particles in the near future, is often as daunting as carrying out the simulations in the first

Topological properties of physical systems can lead to robust behaviors that are insensitive to microscopic details. Such topologically robust phenomena are not limited to static systems but can also appear in driven quantum systems. In this paper, we show that the Floquet operators of periodically driven systems can be divided into topologically distinct (h
