Using the theory of Zhang and Clougherty [Phys. Rev. Lett. 108, 173202 (2012)], we provide detailed supporting information concerning the numerical calculations of the probability ${\it s}(E)$ for a low-energy electron with incident energy E adsorbing to the surface of nanoporous silicon.

We study Higgs-radion mixing in a warped extra dimensional model with Standard Model fields in the bulk, and we include a fourth generation of chiral fermions. The main problem with the fourth generation is that, in the absence of Higgs-radion mixing, it produces a large enhancement in the Higgs production cross-section, now severely constrained by LHC data.

We observed unexpected resonant response in [Fe/Cr]_(10) multilayers epitaxially grown on MgO(100) substrates which exists only when both ac current and dc magnetic field are simultaneously applied. The magnitude of the resonances is determined by the multilayer magnetization proving their intrinsic character. The reduction of interface epitaxy leads to non-

Gibbs measures are the main object of study in equilibrium statistical mechanics, and are used in many other contexts, including dynamical systems and ergodic theory, and spatial statistics. Bonding and anti-bonding states of artificial molecules have been realized in experiments by directly coupling two quantum dots. As well known the rotation distance D(S,T) between two binary trees S, T of n vertices is the minimum number of rotations of pairs of vertices to transform S into T. We consider packing LP's with $m$ rows where all constraint coefficients are normalized to be in the unit interval. The n columns arrive in random order and the goal is to set the corresponding decision variables irrevocably when they arrive so as to obtain a feasible solution maximizing the expected reward. Previous (1 - ε)-competitive algorithms requir

A model for strong kinetic Alfvén plasma turbulence at scales smaller than the ion gyroscale is proposed. It is argued that magnetic and density fluctuations are concentrated mostly at two-dimensional structures, which leads to their Fourier energy spectra $E(k_\perp)\propto k_{\perp}^{-8/3}$, where $k_\perp$ is the wave-vector component normal to the strong

We report a study on the thermodynamic stability and structure analysis of the epitaxial BiFeO3 (BFO) thin films grown on YAlO3 (YAO) substrate. First we observe a phase transition of MC-MA-T occurs in thin sample (<60 nm) with an utter tetragonal-like phase (denoted as MII here) with a large c/a ratio (~1.23). Specifically, MII phase transition process refe

This is a survey on spherical Hopf algebras. We give criteria to decide when a Hopf algebra is spherical and collect examples. We discuss tilting modules as a mean to obtain a fusion subcategory of the non-degenerate quotient of the category of representations of a suitable Hopf algebra.

We compare and combine two approaches that have been recently introduced by Dafnis and Paouris [DP] and by Klartag and Milman [KM] with the aim of providing bounds for the isotropic constants of convex bodies. By defining a new hereditary parameter for all isotropic log-concave measures, we are able to show that the method in [KM], and the apparently stronge

We present an automated solution for rapid diagnosis of client device problems in private cloud environments: the Intelligent Automated Client Diagnostic (IACD) system. Clients are diagnosed with the aid of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) packet traces, by (i) observation of anomalous artifacts occurring as a result of each fault and (ii) subsequent use

We analyze the nested derivatives of a function $\mathfrak{D}^{n}[f]\,(x)$ asymptotically, as $n\rightarrow\infty,$ using a discrete version of the ray method. We give some examples showing the accuracy of our formulas.

Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) begins from a context, given as a binary relation between some objects and some attributes, and derives a lattice of concepts, where each concept is given as a set of objects and a set of attributes, such that the first set consists of all objects that satisfy all attributes in the second, and vice versa. Many applications, thou
Limits on [OIII] 5007 emission from NGC4472's globular clusters: constraints on planetary nebulae and ultraluminous black hole X-ray binaries in globular clusters

We have searched for [OIII] 5007 emission in high resolution spectroscopic data from Flames/Giraffe VLT observations of 174 massive globular clusters (GCs) in NGC4472. No planetary nebulae (PNe) are observed in these clusters, constraining the number of PNe per bolometric luminosity, α<0.8*10^{-7}PN/L_{\odot}. This is significantly lower than the rate predic

We use Stokes's theorem to establish an explicit and concrete connection between the Bergman and Szegő projections on the disc, the ball, and on strongly pseudoconvex domains.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 3rd International Workshop on Formal Aspects of Virtual Organisations (FAVO 2011). The workshop was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil on October 18th, 2011 as a satellite event to the 12th IFIP Working Conference on Virtual Enterprises (PRO-VE'11). The FAVO workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers interested in

Expressions for the two-dimensional Stimulated x-ray Raman Spectroscopy (2D-SXRS) signal obtained using attosecond x-ray pulses are derived. The 1D- and 2D-SXRS signals are calculated for trans-N-methyl acetamide (NMA) with broad bandwidth (FWHM ~14.2eV, 181 as) pulses tuned to the oxygen and nitrogen K-edges. Crosspeaks in 2D signals reveal electronic Franc
On enhanced descend algorithms for solving frictional multi-contact problems : applications to the Discrete Element Method
math.NASerge Dumont
In this article, we present various numerical methods to solve multi-contact problems within the Non-Smooth Discrete Element Method. The techniques considered to solve the frictional unilateral conditions are based both on the bi-potential theory and the Augmented Lagrangian theory. A new Newton method is developed to improve the classical algorithms.

The paper presents a numerical study for the finite element method with anisotropic meshes. We compare the accuracy of the numerical solutions on quasi-uniform, isotropic, and anisotropic meshes for a test problem which combines several difficulties of a corner singularity, a peak, a boundary layer, and a wavefront. Numerical experiment clearly shows the adv

Generalized sparse matrix-matrix multiplication (or SpGEMM) is a key primitive for many high performance graph algorithms as well as for some linear solvers, such as algebraic multigrid. Here we show that SpGEMM also yields efficient algorithms for general sparse-matrix indexing in distributed memory, provided that the underlying SpGEMM implementation is suf

Drawing on the previous work on interpolation failure, we show that Beth's definability theorem does not hold for intuitionistic predicate logic of constant domains without identity.
