It is well known that the open set condition and the positivity of the $t$-dimensional Hausdorff measure are equivalent on self-similar sets, where $t$ is the zero of the topological pressure. We prove an analogous result for a class of Moran constructions and we study different kinds of Moran constructions with this respect.

We study how measures with finite lower density are distributed around $(n-m)$-planes in small balls in $\mathbb{R}^n$. We also discuss relations between conical upper density theorems and porosity. Our results may be applied to a large collection of Hausdorff and packing type measures.

  3. Antti Käenmäki

We study geometric rigidity of a class of fractals, which is slightly larger than the collection of self-conformal sets. Namely, using a new method, we shall prove that a set of this class is contained in a smooth submanifold or is totally spread out.

In $\mathbb{R}^n$, we establish an asymptotically sharp upper bound for the upper Minkowski dimension of $k$-porous sets having holes of certain size near every point in $k$ orthogonal directions at all small scales. This bound tends to $n-k$ as $k$-porosity tends to its maximum value.

Drawing on experimental data for baryon resonances, Hamiltonian effective field theory (HEFT) is used to predict the positions of the finite-volume energy levels to be observed in lattice QCD simulations. We have studied the low-lying baryons $N^*(1535)$, $N^*(1440)$, and $Λ(1405)$. In the initial analysis, the phenomenological parameters of the Hamiltonian

A generalized version of the creation and annihilation operators is constructed and the factorization of the Schrödinger equation is investigated. It is shown that the generalized version of factorization operators yield a factorization for the twelve different separable coordinates for the Schrödinger equation.

These proceedings present the current status of measurements of the CP-violating phase $phi_s$ by the LHCb collaboration, reviewing the measurements in channels such as $B_s^0\to J/ψϕ$, $B_s^0\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ and $B_s^0 \to ψ(2S)ϕ$. The observation of the $B_s^0\toη_cϕ$ decay mode is presented for the first time, which can be used to measure $ϕ_s$ with larger

Under the assumption of a natural subadditive potential, the so called cylinder function, working on the symbol space we prove the existence of the ergodic invariant probability measure satisfying the equilibrium state. 9. Antti Käenmäki, Ville Suomala

We study how the Hausdorff measure is distributed in nonsymmetric narrow cones in $\mathbb{R}^n$. As an application, we find an upper bound close to $n-k$ for the Hausdorff dimension of sets with large $k$-porosity. With $k$-porous sets we mean sets which have holes in $k$ different directions on every small scale.

In this paper we study the renormalization of Halo effective field theory applied to the Helium-6 halo nucleus seen as an alpha-neutron-neutron three-body state. We include the 0+ dineutron channel together with both the 3/2- and 1/2- neutron-alpha channels into the field theory and study all of the six lowest-order three-body interactions that are present.

We consider the limit set of generalised iterated function systems. Under the assumption of a natural potential, the so called cylinder function, we prove the existence of the invariant probability measure satisfying the equilibrium state. We motivate this approach by showing that for typical self-affine sets there exists an ergodic invariant measure having

We investigated the energy dependence of the parton-parton inelastic cross sections, parton- parton inelastic overlap functions and the Cq moments in proton interactions from 10 to 14000 GeV. We consider infinite conformal iterated function systems on $\mathbb{R}^d$. We study the geometric structure of the limit set of such systems. Suppose this limit set intersects some $l$-dimensional $C^1$-submanifold with positive Hausdorff $t$-dimensional measure, where $0<l<d$ and $t$ is the Hausdorff dimension of the limit set. The commonly used one step methods and linear multi-step methods all have a global error that is of the same order as the local truncation error (as defined in \cite{gustafsson1995time,quarteroni2010numerical,AllenIsaacson,IsaacsonKeller,Sewell}). We study $D$ - meson production at forward rapidities taking into account the non - linear effects in the QCD dynamics and the intrinsic charm component of the proton wave function. The total cross section, the rapidity distributions and the Feynman - $x$ distributions are calculated for $p p$ collisions at different center of mass energies. Our results show

Various models of solar sub-surface stratification are tested in the global EULAG-MHD solver to simulate diverse regimes of near-surface convective transport. Sub- and superadiabacity are altered at the surface of the model ($ r > 0.95~R_{\odot}$) to either suppress or enhance convective flow speeds in an effort to investigate the impact of the near-surface

We present a new 5-GHz global-VLBI image of supernova 1986J, observed in 2014 at $t=31.6$ yr after the explosion, and compare it to previous images to show the evolution of the supernova. Our new image has a dynamic range of ~100 and a background rms noise level of 5.9 $μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$. There is no significant linear polarization, with the image peak being

A fundamental question in the study of chemical reactions is how reactions proceed at a collision energy close to absolute zero. This question is no longer hypothetical: quantum degenerate gases of atoms and molecules can now be created at temperatures lower than a few tens of nanoKelvin. In this work we consider the benchmark ultracold reaction between, the

Several synergistic trends, subsumed under the phrase "Internet of things (IoT)" massively drive the increasing importance of networking applications. In the past, the exponential growth of the Internet was mainly due to semantically agnostic transport protocols. In the future it is to be expected that, because of the increasing autonomy of technical

We apply the bosonization technique to derive the phase diagram of a balanced unit density two-component dipolar Fermi gas in a one dimensional lattice geometry. The considered interaction processes are of the usual contact and dipolar long-range density-density type together with peculiar correlated hopping terms which can be generated dynamically. Rigorous

We obtain results on mixing for a large class of (not necessarily Markov) infinite measure semiflows and flows. Erickson proved, amongst other things, a strong renewal theorem in the corresponding i.i.d. setting. Using operator renewal theory, we extend Erickson's methods to the deterministic (i.e. non-i.i.d.) continuous time setting and obtain results o

In this work we propose a simple unsupervised approach for next frame prediction in video. Instead of directly predicting the pixels in a frame given past frames, we predict the transformations needed for generating the next frame in a sequence, given the transformations of the past frames. This leads to sharper results, while using a smaller prediction mode

Implementing the modal method in the electromagnetic grating diffraction problem delivered by the curvilinear coordinate transformation yields a general analytical solution to the 1D grating diffraction problem in a form of a T-matrix. Simultaneously it is shown that the validity of the Rayleigh expansion is defined by the validity of the modal expansion in

Source localization in ocean acoustics is posed as a machine learning problem in which data-driven methods learn source ranges directly from observed acoustic data. The pressure received by a vertical linear array is preprocessed by constructing a normalized sample covariance matrix (SCM) and used as the input. Three machine learning methods (feed-forward ne

We construct a contour function for the entanglement entropies in generic harmonic lattices. In one spatial dimension, numerical analysis are performed by considering harmonic chains with either periodic or Dirichlet boundary conditions. In the massless regime and for some configurations where the subsystem is a single interval, the numerical results for the

In this note, we complete the classification of quasi-alternating Montesinos links. We show that the quasi-alternating Montesinos links are precisely those identified independently by Qazaqzeh-Chbili-Qublan and Champanerkar-Ording. A consequence of our proof is that a Montesinos link $L$ is quasi-alternating if and only if its double branched cover is an L-s

We study the classic $k$-median and $k$-means clustering objectives in the beyond-worst-case scenario. We consider three well-studied notions of structured data that aim at characterizing real-world inputs: Distribution Stability (introduced by Awasthi, Blum, and Sheffet, FOCS 2010), Spectral Separability (introduced by Kumar and Kannan, FOCS 2010), Perturba

Regulations governing METI are weak or non-existent. Post-detection SETI protocols are non-binding and too general. Vastly increased SETI capabilities, Chinese involvement in the field, and an intensified effort by METI-ists to initiate radio transmissions to the stars are among reasons cited for urgency in addressing the question of appropriate regulations.

We consider a prediction market in which all aspects are controlled by market forces, in particular the correct outcomes of events are decided by the market itself rather than by trusted arbiters. This kind of a decentralized prediction market can sustain betting on events whose outcome may remain unresolved for a long or even unlimited time period, and can

We propose an FDTD scheme based on Generalized Sheet Transition Conditions (GSTCs) for the simulation of polychromatic, nonlinear and space-time varying metasurfaces. This scheme consists in placing the metasurface at virtual nodal plane introduced between regular nodes of the staggered Yee grid and inserting fields determined by GSTCs in this plane in the s
