W-symmetry in Conformal Field Theory

Abstract
We review various aspects of -algebra symmetry in two-dimensional conformal field theory and string theory. We pay particular attention to the construction of -algebras through the quantum Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction and through the coset construction.
