Abstract
Mumford proved that psig - lambda1 psig-1 + ... + (-1)g lambdag = 0 in the Chow ring of Mg,1 [Mum83]. We find an explicit recursive formula for psig - lambda1 psig-1 + ... + (-1)g lambdag in the tautological ring of g,1 as a combination of classes supported on boundary strata.
