cond-mat.mes-hallP. König, U. Zeitler, J. Könemann, T. Schmidt
We have performed temperature dependent tunneling experiments through a single impurity in an asymmetric vertical double barrier tunneling structure. In particular in the charging direction we observe at zero magnetic field a clear shift in the onset voltage of the resonant tunneling current through the impurity. With a magnetic field applied the shift start

Systems of particles interacting through a screened Coulomb potential of the Debye-Yukawa form are considered. It is shown that the colour dipole approach to hard scattering at high energy is fully compatible with k_T factorization at the leading logarithm approximation (in -log x_Bj). The relations between the dipole amplitudes and unintegrated diagonal and non-diagonal gluon distributions are given. It is also shown that including the exact gluon kinematics in the

Recently it was suggested that two very different mass-squared differences play a role in atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The larger of these also accounts for the LSND result and the smaller of these also drives the solar neutrino oscillations. We consider the predictions of this scheme for long-baseline experiments. We find that high statistics experime

We compute the centrality dependence of multiplicities of particles produced in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions at various energies and atomic numbers. The computation is carried out in perturbative QCD with saturated densities of produced gluons and by including effects of nuclear geometry. Numbers are given for Au+Au collisions at RHIC energies.

Strong gauge and top-Yukawa couplings predicted in the presence of extra dimensions lead to a trickle-down effect of the top-coupling through the renormalization group equations for the quark Yukawa matrices. The matrix elements for the u and d-quarks get progressively smaller as one moves away from the dominant (33)-element revealing a hierarchical pattern

We simulate a supersymmetric matrix model obtained from dimensional reduction of 4d SU(N) super Yang-Mills theory (a 4d counter part of the IKKT model or IIB matrix model). The eigenvalue distribution determines the space structure. The measurement of Wilson loop correlators reveals a universal large N scaling. Eguchi-Kawai equivalence may hold in a finite r

Recent results from a rare kaon decay experiment E787 at the BNL-AGS on K^+ \to π^+ ν\barν, K^+ \to μ^+ νγ, and K^+ \to π^+ π^0 γdecays are reported.

The CKM collaboration is proposing to measure the branching ratio of the rare K decay (K+ --> pi+ nu nubar) at the Main Injector at Fermilab. Our goal is to be able to observe about 100 events, for a Standard Model branching ratio of about 1.0E-10. This implies that we must be able to reduce the background to a few events.
Conditional Symmetries, the True Degree of Freedom and G.C.T. Invariant Wave functions for the general Bianchi Type II Vacuum Cosmology

The quantization of the most general Bianchi Type II geometry -with all six scale factors, as well as the lapse function and the shift vector, present- is considered. In an earlier work, a first reduction of the initial 6-dimensional configuration space, to a 4-dimensional one, has been achieved by the usage of the information furnished by the quantum form o

We discuss ultracompact stellar objects which have multiple necks in their optical geometry. There are in fact physically reasonable equations of state for which the number of necks can be arbitrarily large. The proofs of these statements rely on a recent regularized formulation of the field equations for static spherically symmetric models due to Nilsson an

According to the entropy bound, the entropy of a complete physical system can be universally bounded in terms of its circumscribing radius and total gravitating energy. Page's three recent candidates for counterexamples to the bound are here clarified and refuted by stressing that the energies of all essential parts of the system must be included in the
