We discuss the allowed decays of a hybrid meson in the heavy quark limit. We deduce that an important decay will be into a heavy quark non-hybrid state and a light quark meson, in other words, the de-excitation of an excited gluonic string by emission of a light quark-antiquark pair. We discuss the study of hadronic decays from the lattice in the heavy quark

The hadron mass spectrum is calculated in lattice QCD using a novel fat-link clover fermion action in which only the irrelevant operators of the fermion action are constructed using smeared links. The simulations are performed on a 16^3 X 32 lattice with a lattice spacing of a=0.125 fm. We compare actions with n=4 and 12 smearing sweeps with a smearing fract

2+1 gravity coupled to a massless scalar field has an initial singularity when the spatial slices are compact. The quantized model is used here to investigate several issues of quantum gravity. The spectrum of the volume operator is studied at the initial singularity. The energy spectrum is obtained. Dynamics of the universe is also investigated.

Several recent studies have concerned the faith of classical symmetries in quantum space-time. In particular, it appears likely that quantum (discretized, noncommutative,...) versions of Minkowski space-time would not enjoy the classical Lorentz symmetries. I compare two interesting cases: the case in which the classical symmetries are "broken", i.e.

By incorporating spinning particles into the framework of classical General Relativity, the theory is changed insofar, as, though using holonome coordinates, the connexion becomes asymmetrical. This implies, that partial derivatives do not commute any longer. Hence, the class of functions under consideration has to be extended. A non-minimal extension leads

A system of PDE describing bilayers amphiphilic membranes is studied by Lie group analysis. This algorithmic approach allows us to show all the symmetries of the system, to determine all possible symmetry reductions, to recover the axisymmetric solutions, obtained by other euristic methods, and finally to address the question of new similarity solutions.

Surface growth in random media is usually governed by both the surface tension and the random local forces. We decompose U(1) gauge fields into a monopole and photon part across the phase transition from the confinement to the Coulomb phase. We analyze the leading Lyapunov exponents of such gauge field configurations on the lattice which are initialized by quantum Monte Carlo simulations. It turns out that there is a strong relation between the sizes of the monopo

Continuing our studies of radiative Upsilon(1S) decays, we report on a search for Upsilon to gamma eta and Upsilon to gamma f_{J}(2220) in 61.3 pb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} data taken with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. For the gamma eta search the three decays of the eta meson to pi^{+}pi^{-}pi^{0}, pi^{0}pi^{0}pi^{0}, and gamma gamma w
Comparison of the Isolated Direct Photon Cross Sections in $p \bar p$ Collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}=0.63$ TeV
hep-exCDF Collaboration, D. Acosta
We have measured the cross sections $d^2σ/dP_T dη$ for production of isolated direct photons in \pbarp collisions at two different center-of-mass energies, 1.8 TeV and 0.63 TeV, using the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The normalization of both data sets agree with the predictions of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) for photon transverse momentum ($P_T$) o

A search has been made for lepton-flavor-violating interactions, e+ p -> mu/tau X, at a center-of-mass energy of 300 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 47.7 pb^-1 using the ZEUS detector at HERA. No evidence was found for lepton-flavor violation and constraints were derived on leptoquarks that could mediate such interactions. Some of the constraints are al

This is the account of the workshop Exact solutions and their interpretation at the 16-th International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation held in Durban, July 15-21, 2001. Work reported in 32 oral contributions spanned a wide variety of topics, ranging from exact radiative spacetimes to cosmological solutions. Two invited review talks, on the

The question of existence of general, asymptotically flat radiative spacetimes and examples of explicit classes of radiative solutions of Einstein's field equations are discussed in the light of some new developments. The examples are cylindrical waves, Robinson-Trautman and type N spacetimes and especially boost-rotation symmetric spacetimes representin

In this letter we consider the Einsteinian strengths and dynamical degrees of freedom for quadratic gravity. We show that purely metric quadratic gravity theories are much stronger in Einsteinian sense than the competitive quadratic gravity theories which admit torsion.

Electromagnetism in an inhomogeneous dielectric medium at rest is described using the methods of differential geometry. In contrast to a general relativistic approach the electromagnetic fields are discussed in three-dimensional space only. The introduction of an appropriately chosen three-dimensional metric leads to a significant simplification of the descr

We discuss properties of conformal geodesics on general, vacuum, and warped product space-times and derive a system of conformal deviation equations. The results are used to show how to construct on the Schwarzschild-Kruskal space-time global conformal Gauss coordinates which extends smoothly and without degeneracy to future and past null infinity.

We study the two-dimensional Hubbard model with nonmagnetic Zn impurities modeled by binary diagonal disorder using Quantum Monte Carlo within the Dynamical Cluster Approximation. With increasing Zn content we find a strong suppression of d-wave superconductivity concomitant to a reduction of antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations. $T_c$ vanishes linearly with

We study the nonlinear interactions in the TGB_A phase by using a rotationally invariant elastic free energy. By deforming a single grain boundary so that the smectic layers undergo their rotation within a finite interval, we construct a consistent three-dimensional structure. With this structure we study the energetics and predict the ratio between the intr

We report a detailed study of the magnetic-field-orientation dependence of the millimetre-wave magnetoconductivity of the superconductor Sr2RuO4 We find two harmonic series of cyclotron resonances. We assign the first, corresponding to a quasiparticle mass of $4.29 \pm 0.05 m_{\rm e}$, where $m_{\rm e}$ is the free-electron mass, to the $β$ Fermi-surface sec
Low energy states with different symmetries in the t-J model with two holes on a 32-site lattice

We study the low energy states of the t-J model with two holes on a 32-site lattice with periodic boundary conditions. In contrary to common belief, we find that the state with d_{x^2-y^2} symmetry is not always the ground state in the realistic parameter range 0.2\le J/t\le 0.4. There exist low-lying finite-momentum p-states whose energies are lower than th

We study the symmetry classes for the random Dirac fermions in 2 dimensions. We consider $N_f$ species of fermions, coupled by different types of disorder. We analyse the renormalisation group flow at the order of one loop. At $N_f$ large, the disorder distribution flows to an isotropic distribution and the effective action is a sigma model.

Structural properties of a finite number ($N = 2 - 20$) of point charges (classical electrons) confined laterally in a two-dimensional two-minima potential are calculated as a function of the distance ($d$) between the minima. The particles are confined by identical parabolic potentials and repel each other through a Coulomb potential. Both ground state and
