We investgate the breakup of one-neutron halo nuclei in the Coulomb field of a target nucleus. In the post-form distorted wave Born approximation theory of this reaction, with only Coulomb distortions in the entrance and the outgoing channels, an analytic solution for the breakup $T$-matrix is known. We propose a method to study lattice QCD at finite temperature (T) and chemical potential (μ). We compare the method with direct results and with the Glasgow method by using n_f=4 QCD at Im(μ)\neq0. Self consistent quantum approaches are used to study the instabilities of finite nuclear systems. The frequencies of multipole density fluctuations are determined as a function of dilution and temperature, for several isotopes. The spinodal region of the phase diagrams is determined and it appears that instabilities are reduced by finite size effects. The ro

We report on the effects of temporal modulation of the driving force on a particular class of localized states, known as worms, that have been observed in electroconvection in nematic liquid crystals. Analysis and classification of nonlinear dispersive evolution equations in the potential representation
math-phA. U. Eichmann, J. P. Draayer, A. Ludu
A potential representation for the subset of traveling solutions of nonlinear dispersive evolution equations is introduced. The procedure involves a reduction of a third order partial differential equation to a first order ordinary differential equation. We express the genus-two fixed-complex-structure enumerative invariants of P^2 and P^3 in terms of the genus-zero enumerative invariants. The approach is to relate each genus-two fixed-complex-structure enumerative invariant to the corresponding symplectic invariant.

We prove lower Dirac eigenvalue bounds for closed surfaces with a spin structure whose Arf invariant equals 1. Braided Lie algebras and bicovariant differential calculi over coquasitriangular Hopf algebras

We show that if $g_Γ$ is the quantum tangent space (or quantum Lie algebra in the sense of Woronowicz) of a bicovariant first order differential calculus over a coquasitriangular Hopf algebra $(A,r)$, then a certain extension of it is a braided Lie algebra in the category of $A$-comodules. A strategy for proving Riemann hypothesis is suggested. Using a general result of Lusztig, we give explicit formulas for the dimensions of K^F-invariants in irreducible representations of G^F, when G=GL_n, F:G->G is a Frobenius map, and K is an F-stable subgroup of finite index in G^theta for some involution theta:G->G commuting with F. Reductive G-structures on a principal bundle Q are considered. It is shown that these structures, i.e. reductive G-subbundles P of Q, admit a canonical decomposition of the pull-back vector bundle $i_P^*(TQ) = P \times_Q TQ$ over P. For classical G-structures, i.e. reductive G-subbundles of the linear frame bundle, such a decomposition defines an infinitesim

In the present paper clustering and correlations within halo systems is explored. In particular, the application of neutron-neutron interferometry and Dalitz-plot type analyses is presented through the example provided by the dissociation of 14Be. A novel approach for producing and detecting bound neutron clusters is also described. The observation of some 6

In this paper we investigate the possibility of constraining the hypothesis of a fifth force at the length scale of two Earth's radii by investigating the effects of a Yukawa gravitational potential on the orbits of the laser--ranged LAGEOS satellites. The existing constraints on the Yukawa coupling $α$, obtained by fitting the LAGEOS orbit, are of the o

In this paper we consider the possibility of measuring the corrections induced by the square of the parameter a_g of the Kerr metric to the general relativistic deflection of electromagnetic waves and time delay in an Earth based experiment. It turns out that, while at astronomical scale the well known gravitoelectric effects are far larger than the gravitom

We calculate the cross section of J/psi inclusive production in neutrino-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering via the weak neutral current within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics. Besides J/psi single production via the Z-gluon fusion mechanism, we also consider J/psi plus hadron-jet associated production. We take into accou

Systematic errors in the database of $np$ differential cross sections below 350 MeV are studied. By applying angle-dependent normalizations with the help of the energy-dependent Nijmegen partial-wave analysis PWA93 the $χ^2$-values of some seriously flawed data sets can be reduced significantly at the expense of a few degrees of freedom. It turns out that in
Brane-Production and the Neutrino-Nucleon cross section at Ultra High Energies in Low Scale Gravity Models
hep-phPankaj Jain, Supriya Kar, Sukanta Panda
The origin of the ultra high energy cosmic ray (UHECR) showers has remained as a mystery among particle physicists and astrophysicists. In low scale gravity models, where the neutrino-nucleon cross section rises to typical hadronic values at energies above $10^{20}$ eV, the neutrino becomes a candidate for the primary that initiates these showers. We calcula

Neutron powder diffraction experiments on La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 over a broad temperature range above and below the metal-insulator transition have been analyzed beyond the Rietveld average approach by use of Reverse Monte Carlo modelling. This approach allows the calculation of atomic pair distribution functions and spin correlation functions constrained to describ

Over the last few years X-ray observations of broad-line radio galaxies (BLRGs) by ASCA, RXTE and BeppoSAX have shown that these objects seem to exhibit weaker X-ray reflection features (such as the iron Kαline) than radio-quiet Seyferts. This has lead to speculation that the optically-thick accretion disc in radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN) may be tr
Relating the Cosmological Constant and Supersymmetry Breaking in Warped Compactifications of IIB String Theory
hep-thP. Berglund, T. Hubsch, D. Minic
It has been suggested that the observed value of the cosmological constant is related to the supersymmetry breaking scale M_{susy} through the formula Lambda \sim M_p^4 (M_{susy}/M_p)^8. We point out that a similar relation naturally arises in the codimension two solutions of warped space-time varying compactifications of string theory in which non-isotropic

We predict the redshift distribution of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) assuming that they trace the cosmic star formation history. We find that a fraction >~50% of all GRBs on the sky originate at a redshift z >~5, even though the fraction of the total stellar mass formed by z~5 is only ~15%. These two fractions are significantly different because they involve diff

We present a two-part program for state space decomposition. States are classified into entanglement classes based on local unitary transformations, and then characterized as elements of topological spaces using the language of fibre bundles.

We propose a numerical algorithm for finding optimal measurements for quantum-state discrimination. The theory of the semidefinite programming provides a simple check of the optimality of the numerically obtained results.

The hydrodynamic formulation of quantum mechanics is used to elucidate the mechanism for decoherence, the suppression of interference effects in a system evolving from an initial coherent superposition. Analysis of time-dependent trajectory ensembles, flux maps, and elements of the stress tensor for two composite systems, in one of which the system is uncoup
