We report the first direct observation of the oxygen-isotope ($^{16}$O/$^{18}$O) effect on the in-plane penetration depth $λ_{ab}$ in a nearly optimally doped YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$ film using the novel low-energy muon-spin rotation technique. Spin polarized low energy muons are implanted in the film at a known depth $z$ beneath the surface and precess in th

Financial correlations play a central role in financial theory and also in many practical applications. From theoretical point of view, the key interest is in a proper description of the structure and dynamics of correlations. From practical point of view, the emphasis is on the ability of the developed models to provide the adequate input for the numerous p

Ultrafast optical pump of exciton resonance in single quantum dot by an elliptically polarized laser pulse is described by the non-Markov balance equations. Population and spin dynamics are investigated and spin-dependent Rabi oscillations are considered for the case of a flat quantum dot, with the lateral size greater than the height. The following peculiar

We report a numerical calculation of the elastic constants of the fcc and hcp crystal phases of monodisperse hard-sphere colloids. Surprisingly, some of these elastic constants are very different (up to 20%), even though the free energy, pressure and bulk compressibility of the two crystal structures are very nearly equal. As a consequence, a moderate deform

We study a realistic model for driven qubits using the numerical solution of the Bloch-Redfield equation as well as analytical approximations using a high-frequency scheme. Unlike in idealized rotating-wave models suitable for NMR or quantum optics, we study a driving term which neither is orthogonal to the static term nor leaves the adiabatic energy value c
Disorder induced collapse of the electron phonon coupling in MgB$_{2}$ observed by Raman Spectroscopy
cond-mat.supr-conK. A. Yates, G. Burnell, N. A. Stelmashenko, D. -J. Kang
The Raman spectrum of the superconductor MgB$_{2}$ has been measured as a function of the Tc of the film. A striking correlation is observed between the $T_{c}$ onset and the frequency of the $E_{2g}$ mode. Analysis of the data with the McMillan formula provides clear experimental evidence for the collapse of the electron phonon coupling at the temperature p

Fully quantized mechanical motion of a single-level quantum dot coupled to two voltage biased electronic leads is studied. It is found that there are two different regimes depending on the applied voltage. If the bias voltage is below a certain threshold (which depends on the energy of the vibrational quanta) the mechanical subsystem is characterized by a lo
Parallelization Strategies for Density Matrix Renormalization Group Algorithms on Shared-Memory Systems
cond-mat.str-elG. Hager, E. Jeckelmann, H. Fehske, G. Wellein
Shared-memory parallelization (SMP) strategies for density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) algorithms enable the treatment of complex systems in solid state physics. We present two different approaches by which parallelization of the standard DMRG algorithm can be accomplished in an efficient way. The methods are illustrated with DMRG calculations of the
Rigorous Analysis of Singularities and Absence of Analytic Continuation at First Order Phase Transition Points in Lattice Spin Models
cond-mat.stat-mechSacha Friedli, Charles-Édouard Pfister
We report about two new rigorous results on the non-analytic properties of thermodynamic potentials at first order phase transition. The first one is valid for lattice models ($d\geq 2$) with arbitrary finite state space, and finite-range interactions which have two ground states. Under the only assumption that the Peierls Condition is satisfied for the grou

We have observed coherent time evolution between two quantum states of a superconducting flux qubit comprising three Josephson junctions in a loop. The superposition of the two states carrying opposite macroscopic persistent currents is manipulated by resonant microwave pulses. Readout by means of switching-event measurement with an attached superconducting
Preliminary Preparations: Scattering Problem of Double-layered Sphere Containing Left-handed Media
cond-mat.mtrl-sciJian Qi Shen, Yi Jin, Long Chen
In this paper, we present Mie coefficients of double-layered sphere and consider the scattering problem, including the topics on field distribution, electromagnetic cross section, extinction spectra as well as some potential peculiar properties arising from the presence of left-handed media. The formulation presented here can be easily generalized to cases o
