I discuss the theoretical implications of the WMAP results, stressing WMAP's detection of a correlation between the E-mode polarization and temperature anisotropies, which provides strong support for the overall inflationary paradigm. Large Beyond-Leading-Order Effects in b -> s gamma in Supersymmetry with General Flavor Mixing
hep-phKen-ichi Okumura, Leszek Roszkowski
We examine squark--gluino loop effects on the process $b \to s γ$ in minimal supersymmetry with general flavor mixing in the squark sector. In the regime of heavy squarks and gluino, we derive analytic expressions for the beyond--LO corrections to the Wilson coefficients and find them to be often large, especially at large $\tanβ$ and $μ>0$. The effect of a slowly rotating mass on a forced harmonic oscillator with two degrees of freedom is studied in the weak field approximation. It is found that according to the general theory of relativity there is a shift in the resonat frequency of the oscillator which depends on the density and rotational frequency of the gravitational source. The proposed

We investigate the continuum limit of a compact formulation of the lattice U(1) gauge theory in 4 dimensions using a nonperturbative gauge-fixed regularization. Retarded Interaction of Radiation Field and Symmetry Violation of Time Reversal in the High order Stimulated Radiation and Absorption Processes of Light

Einstein's 1905 derivation of E = mc^2 has been criticized for being circular. Although such criticisms have been challenged it is certainly true that the reasoning in Einstein's original derivation is not at all obvious. Einstein's original derivation could have been made clearer. This article describes a clear way of doing so.

Schrödinger operators with matrix potentials. Transition from the absolutely continuous to the singular spectrum
math-phStanislav A. Molchanov, Boris R. Vainberg
It is proven that the absolutely continuous spectrum of matrix Schrödinger operators coincides (with the multiplicity taken into account) with the spectrum of the unperturbed operator if the (matrix) potential is square integrable. The same result is also proven for some classes of slower decaying potentials if they are smooth.

We compute the two-body one-loop effective action for the matrix theory in the pp-wave background, and compare it to the effective action on the supergravity side in the same background. Agreement is found for the effective actions on both sides. This points to the existence of a supersymmetric nonrenormalization theorem in the pp-wave background.

Quantum-mechanical initial conditions for the fluctuations of the geometry can be assigned in excess of a given physical wavelength. The two-point functions of the scalar and tensor modes of the geometry will then inherit corrections depending on which Hamiltonian is minimized at the initial stage of the evolution. The energy density of the background geomet

Little groups for preon branes (i.e. configurations of branes with maximal (n-1)/n fraction of survived supersymmetry) for dimensions d=2,3,...,11 are calculated for all massless, and partially for massive orbits. For massless orbits little groups are semidirect product of d-2 translational group $T_{d-2}$ on a subgroup of (SO(d-2) $\times$ R-invariance) gro

We estimate the very long time behaviour of correlation functions in the presence of eternal black holes. It was pointed out by Maldacena (hep-th 0106112) that their vanishing would lead to a violation of a unitarity-based bound. The value of the bound is obtained from the holographic dual field theory. The correlators indeed vanish in a semiclassical bulk a

We prove that the two interaction Hamiltonians of light-cone closed superstring field theory in the plane-wave background present in the literature are identical.

We investigate the $h$-deformed quantum (super)group of $2\times 2$ matrices and use a kind of contraction procedure to prove that the $n$-th power of this deformed quantum (super)matrix is quantum (super)matrix with the deformation parameter $nh$.

We discuss the convergence of level truncation in bosonic open string field theory. As a test case we consider the calculation of the quartic tachyon coupling $γ_4$. We determine the exact contribution from states up to level L=28 and discuss the $L\to\infty$ extrapolation by means of the BST algorithm. We determine in a self-consistent way both the coupling

We investigate the decay mechanisms in the Ds+ --> omega pi+ and Ds+ --> rho0 pi+ transitions. The naive factorization ansatz predicts vanishing amplitude for the Ds+ --> omega pi+ decay, while the Ds+ --> rho0 pi+ decay amplitude does have an annihilation contribution also in this limit. Both decays can proceed through intermediate states of hidden strangen

Within the framework of QCD factorization, we discuss various important corrections arising from higher twist distribution amplitudes of mesons in the hadronic B decays.
Parallel implementation of a lattice-gauge-theory code: studying quark confinement on PC clusters
hep-latAttilio Cucchieri, Tereza Mendes, Gonzalo Travieso, Andre R. Taurines
We consider the implementation of a parallel Monte Carlo code for high-performance simulations on PC clusters with MPI. We carry out tests of speedup and efficiency. The code is used for numerical simulations of pure SU(2) lattice gauge theory at very large lattice volumes, in order to study the infrared behavior of gluon and ghost propagators. This problem

14C is an overwhelming background in low-background underground experiments, to the point where the observation of the all-important (pp) neutrinos from the Sun can not be observed in carbon-containing experiments. This paper shows that 14C purity can be improved by four orders of magnitude by a careful selection of the gas field. Two large reduction factors
Production of pizero and eta mesons at large transverse momenta in pi-p and pi-Be interactions at 515 GeV/c
hep-exFermilab E706 Collaboration, L. Apanasevich
We present results on the production of high transverse momentum pizero and eta mesons in pi-p and pi-Be interactions at 515 GeV/c. The data span the kinematic ranges 1 < p_T < 11 GeV/c in transverse momentum and -0.75 < y < 0.75 in rapidity. The inclusive pizero cross sections are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations and to expectations base

We have investigated the exclusive, radiative B-meson decay to K_2^*(1430) in 88.5 * 10^6 BBbar events. We present a preliminary measurement of the branching fractions BR(B->K^*_2(1430)^0 gamma) = (1.22+-0.25+-0.11) * 10^{-5} and BR(B->K^*_2(1430)^+ gamma) = (1.44+-0.40+-0.13) * 10^{-5}.
A Measurement of the Total Width, the Electronic Width and the Mass of the Upsilon(10580) Resonance
hep-exB. Aubert
We present a preliminary measurement of the resonance parameters of the Upsilon(10580) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B factory. We measure the total decay width to be (20.7 +- 1.6 +- 2.5) MeV, the partial electronic width to be (0.321 +- 0.017 +- 0.029) kev and the mass to be (10.5793 +- 0.0004 +- 0.0012) GeV.

We show that a nominal temperature can be consistently and uniquely defined everywhere in the phase diagram of large classes of nonequilibrium kinetic Ising spin models. In addition, we confirm the recent proposal that, at critical points, the large-time ``fluctuation-dissipation ratio'' $X_\infty$ is a universal amplitude ratio and find in particula

The end-to-end energy - energy correlations of random transverse-field quantum Ising spin chains are computed using a generalization of an asymptotically exact real-space renormalization group introduced previously. Away from the critical point, the average energy - energy correlations decay exponentially with a correlation length that is the same as that of
