The measurement of heavy quark cross-sections provides important tests of the QCD theory. This paper reviews recent measurements of single b-quark and correlated b-quark cross-sections at CDF. Two new measurements of the single b-quark production at CDF agree with the first result from CDF Run II. This clarifies the experimental situation and confirms the re

We report on an investigation into stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis in the low and extremely low metallicity regime, including models of stars with a pure Big Bang composition (i.e. Z=0). The metallicity range of the extremely metal poor (EMP) models we have calculated is -6.5 < [Fe/H] < -3.0, whilst our models are in the mass range 0.85 < M < 3.0 Msun.

We consider two limiting regimes, the large-spin and the mean-field limit, for the dynamical evolution of quantum spin systems. Second-derivative (ordinary-derivative) formulation for such fields is developed. We obtain gauge invariant Lagrangian and the corresponding gauge transformations. Gauge symmetries are realized by involving the Stueckelber

We consider the consequences of the absence of Birkhoff's theorem in theories of modified gravity. As an example, we calculate the gravitational force on a test particle due to a spherical mass shell in the Dvali-Gabadaze-Porrati model (DGP). We show that unlike in General Relativity, the force depends on the mass distribution. In particular, the gravita

Groverian and Geometric entanglement measures of the n-party pure state are expressed by the (n-1)-party reduced state density operator directly. This main theorem derives several important consequences. First, if two pure n-qudit states have reduced states of (n-1)-qudits, which are equivalent under local unitary(LU) transformations, then they have equal Gr
Importance of hydrodynamic shielding for the dynamic behavior of short polyelectrolyte chains

The dynamic behavior of polyelectrolyte chains in the oligomer range is investigated with coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation and compared to data obtained by two different experimental methods, namely capillary electrophoresis and electrophoresis NMR. We find excellent agreement of experiments and simulations when hydrodynamic interactions are acco

We reconsider the Feynman-Kislinger-Ravndal model applied to neutrino-excitation of baryon resonances. The effects of lepton mass are included, using the formalism of Kuzmin, Lyubushkin and Naumov. In addition we take account of the pion-pole contribution to the hadronic axial vector current. Application of this new formalism to the reaction nu(mu) + p --> m

We study experimentally the lasing regime of a GaAs based microcavity sample under strong optical pumping. The very same sample exhibits the strong coupling regime at low excitation power with a Rabi splitting as large as 15 meV. We show that some features which may be considered as experimental evidence of polariton Bose Einstein condensation are also obser

The $(2k)$-th Gauss-Bonnet curvature is a generalization to higher dimensions of the $(2k)$-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet integrand, it coincides with the usual scalar curvature for $k=1$. The Gauss-Bonnet curvatures are used in theoretical physics to describe gravity in higher dimensional space times where they are known as the Lagrangian of Lovelock gravity, Ga

Low-ionization transitions such as the MgII 2796/2803 doublet trace cold gas in the vicinity of galaxies. It is not clear whether this gas is part of the interstellar medium of large proto-disks, part of dwarfs, or part of entrained material in supernovae-driven outflows. Studies based on MgII statistics, e.g. stacked images and clustering analysis, have inv

We present a mathematical analysis of a networks with Integrate-and-Fire neurons and adaptive conductances. Taking into account the realistic fact that the spike time is only known within some \textit{finite} precision, we propose a model where spikes are effective at times multiple of a characteristic time scale $δ$, where $δ$ can be \textit{arbitrary} smal

In this letter we study fermionic zero modes in gauge and gravity backgrounds taking a two dimensional compact manifold $S^2$ as extra dimensions. The result is that there exist massless Dirac fermions which have normalizable zero modes under quite general assumptions about these backgrounds on the bulk. Several special cases of gauge background on the spher

The aim of this paper is to relate algebraic quantum mechanics to topos theory, so as to construct new foundations for quantum logic and quantum spaces. Motivated by Bohr's idea that the empirical content of quantum physics is accessible only through classical physics, we show how a C*-algebra of observables A induces a topos T(A) in which the amalgamati

In this paper we establish new Calabi-Bernstein results for maximal surfaces immersed into a Lorentzian product space of the form $M^2\times\mathbb{R}_1$, where $M^2$ is a connected Riemannian surface and $M^2\times\mathbb{R}_1$ is endowed with the Lorentzian metric $<,>=<,>_{M}-dt^2$. In particular, when $M$ is a Riemannian surface with non-negative Gaussia

In this paper we describe market in projective geometry language and give definition of a matrix of market rate, which is related to the matrix rate of return and the matrix of judgements in the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). We use these observations to extend the AHP model to projective geometry formalism and generalise it to intransitive case. We give

The recent COSY-11 collaboration measurement of the two-proton correlation function in the pp -> ppeta reaction, reported at this meeting [1], arouse some interest in a simple theoretical description of the correlation function. In these notes we present a pedagogical introduction to the practical methods that can be used for calculating the correlation func
Uniqueness of spacelike hypersurfaces with constant higher order mean curvature in generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes

In this paper we study the problem of uniqueness for spacelike hypersurfaces with constant higher order mean curvature in generalized Robertson-Walker (GRW) spacetimes. In particular, we consider the following question: Under what conditions must a compact spacelike hypersurface with constant higher order mean curvature in a spatially closed GRW spacetime be
