Suppose that $Y$ is a scalar and $X$ is a second-order stochastic process, where $Y$ and $X$ are conditionally independent given the random variables $ξ_1,...,ξ_p$ which belong to the closed span $L_X^2$ of $X$. This paper investigates a unified framework for the inverse regression dimension-reduction problem. It is found that the identification of $L_X^2$ w

In this note we shall prove that the Stone-Čech compactification of $\mathcal{L}^n$ is the space $\bar{\mathcal{L}}^n$ where $\bar{\mathcal{L}}$ is the extended long line, namely, $\mathcal{L}$ together with its ends $\pm Ω$. We give a similar description for the Stone-Čech compactification of the cartesian power of the semi-closed half-long line $\mathcal{L

In this paper, we study the period map of a certain one-parameter family of quartic K3 surfaces with an S5-action. We construct automorphic forms on the period domain as the pull-backs of theta constants of genus 2 by a modular embedding. Using these automorphic forms, we give an explicit presentation of the inverse period map.

The purpose of this paper is to interpret polynomial invariants of strongly invertible links in terms of Khovanov homology theory. To a divide, that is a proper generic immersion of a finite number of copies of the unit interval and circles in a 2-disc, one can associate a strongly invertible link in the 3-sphere. This can be generalized to signed divides :

We report on a noise measurement system with the highest spectral resolution ever achieved in the microwave domain. It is capable of detecting the phase fluctuations of $rms$ amplitude of $2\times10^{-11} rad/\sqrt{Hz}$ at Fourier frequencies above few $kHz$. Such precision allows the study of intrinsic fluctuations in various microwave components and materi

In this letter we study adiabatic and isocurvature perturbations in the frame of inflation with multiple sound speeds involved. We suggest this scenario can be realized by a number of generalized scalar fields with arbitrary kinetic forms. These scalars have their own sound speeds respectively, so the propagations of field fluctuations are individual. Specif

We present a construction of hedgehogs for holomorphic maps with an indifferent fixed point. We construct, for a family of commuting non-linearisable maps, a common hedgehog of Hausdorff dimension 1, the minimum possible.

We describe how the effect of charge noise on a pair of spins coupled via the exchange interaction can be calculated by modelling charge fluctuations as a random telegraph noise process using probability density functions. We develop analytic expressions for the time dependent superoperator of a pair of spins as a function of fluctuation amplitude and rate.

We derive a model-independent integral formula for chiral susceptibility and attempt to present a continuum model study of it within the framework of Dyson-Schwinger Equations. An appropriate regularization is implemented to remove the temperature-independent quadratic divergence inherent in this quantity. While it demonstrates a second-order phase transitio

Recursive modelling for the kinematics of a 3-PRP planar parallel robot is presented in this paper. Three planar chains connecting to the moving platform of the manipulator are located in a vertical plane. Knowing the motion of the platform, we develop the inverse kinematics and determine the positions, velocities and accelerations of the robot. Several matr

We propose to achieve super-resolution in far-field imaging by use of dual-dye-doped nanoparticles. The nanoparticles with a diameter of a few nanometers are co-doped with two types of dye molecules, namely, Cy3 and Cy5, at a controllable ratio. Due to the short distances between the dye molecules confined in the nanoparticles, Forster resonant energy transf

For a finite volume geodesic polyhedron P in hyperbolic 3-space, with the property that all interior angles between incident faces are integral submultiples of Pi, there is a naturally associated Coxeter group generated by reflections in the faces. Furthermore, this Coxeter group is a lattice inside the isometry group of hyperbolic 3-space, with fundamental

We study the finite-temperature thermodynamics of a unitary Fermi gas. The chemical potential, energy density and entropy are given analytically with the quasi-linear approximation. The ground state energy agrees with previous theoretical and experimental results. Recently, the generalized exclusion statistics is applied to the discussion of the finite-tempe

The paper presents a new stiffness modeling method for overconstrained parallel manipulators with flexible links and compliant actuating joints. It is based on a multidimensional lumped-parameter model that replaces the link flexibility by localized 6-dof virtual springs that describe both translational/rotational compliance and the coupling between them. In

In this paper, we perform a three-stage numerical relay to investigate the finite time singularity in the two-dimensional Boussinesq approximation equations. The initial asymmetric condition is the middle-stage output of a $2048^2$ run, the highest resolution in our study is $40960^2$, and some signals of numerical blowup are observed.

This is an introductory level survey of some topics from a new branch of fractal analysis -- the theory of self-similar groups. We discuss recent works on random walks on self-similar groups and their applications to the problem of amenability for these groups.

The tensor model can be regarded as theory of dynamical fuzzy spaces, and gives a way to formulate gravity on fuzzy spaces. It has recently been shown that the low-lying fluctuations around the Gaussian background solutions in the tensor model agree correctly with the metric fluctuations on the flat spaces with general dimensions in the general relativity. We studied the current-induced magnetization dynamics of a domain wall confined in a magnetic wire with bi-axial anisotropy. We showed that above the threshold current density, breathing-mode excitation, where the thickness of the domain wall oscillates, is induced by spin-transfer torque. We found that the breathing-mode can be applied as a source of microw

We present GALEX near ultraviolet (NUV:1750 - 2750A) and far ultraviolet (FUV: 1350 - 1750A) imaging observations of two 1.2 degree diameter fields in the Hyades and Pleiades open clusters in order to detect possible UV variability of the member stars. We have performed a detailed software search for short-term UV flux variability during these observations o

Quantum Hall states that result from interaction induced lifting of the eight-fold degeneracy of the zeroth Landau level in bilayer graphene are considered. We show that at even filling factors electric charge is injected into the system in the form of charge $2e$ skyrmions. This is a rare example of binding of charges in a system with purely repulsive inter

Recently, the first Abel map for a stable curve of genus g>1 has been constructed. Fix an integer d>0 and let C be a stable curve of compact type of genus g>1. We construct two d-th Abel maps for C, having different targets, and we compare the fibers of the two maps. As an application, we get a characterization of hyperelliptic stable curves of compact type

The deterministic capacity of a relay network is the capacity of a network when relays are restricted to transmitting \emph{reliable} information, that is, (asymptotically) deterministic function of the source message. In this paper it is shown that the deterministic capacity of a number of MIMO relay networks can be found in the low power regime where $\SNR

This work presents three increasingly expressive Dynamic Logics in which the programs are CCS processes (sCCS-PDL, CCS-PDL and XCCS-PDL). Their goal is to reason about properties of concurrent programs and systems described using CCS. In order to accomplish that, CCS's operators and constructions are added to a basic modal logic in order to create dynami

Eudaemonics is the study of the nature, causes, and conditions of human well-being. According to the ethical theory of eudaemonia, reaping satisfaction and fulfillment from life is not only a desirable end, but a moral responsibility. However, in modern society, many individuals struggle to meet this responsibility. Computational mechanisms could better enab
