We investigate the stability of strange quark matter and the properties of the corresponding strange stars, within a wide range of quark mass scaling. The calculation shows that the resulting maximum mass always lies between 1.5 solor mass and 1.8 solor mass for all the scalings chosen here. Strange star sequences with a linear scaling would support less gra
On Active Learning and Supervised Transmission of Spectrum Sharing Based Cognitive Radios by Exploiting Hidden Primary Radio Feedback
cs.ITRui Zhang
This paper studies the wireless spectrum sharing between a pair of distributed primary radio (PR) and cognitive radio (CR) links. Assuming that the PR link adapts its transmit power and/or rate upon receiving an interference signal from the CR and such transmit adaptations are observable by the CR, this results in a new form of feedback from the PR to CR, re
Reaction plane dependence of neutral pion production in center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC-PHENIX
nucl-exYoki Aramaki
It has been observed in central Au+Au collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) that the yield of neutral pions at high transverse momentum (pT> 5 GeV/c) is strongly suppressed compared to the one expected from p+p collisions scaled by the number of binary collisions. This suppression is considered to be due to the energy lost by hard scattered pa

We study the nucleon electromagnetic form factors in a quark-gluon core model framework, which can be viewed as an extension of the Isgur-Karl model of baryons. Using this picture we derive nucleon electromagnetic dipole form factors at low Q^2 and the deviation from the dipole form at high Q^2, that are consistent with the existing experimental data.

We propose a new theory of gravitation on noncommutative space-time which is invariant under the general coordinate transformations, while the local Lorentz invariance is realized as twisted gauge symmetry. Our theory is remarkably simpler compared to the existing formulations of noncommutative gravity.

We study the propagation of a scalar, the trace of $h_{ij}$ in the deformed Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity with coupling constant $\lambda$. In terms of a photon wave function corresponding to the (1, 0)+(0, 1) representation of the Lorentz group, the radiation and Coulomb fields within a source-free region can be described unitedly by a Lorentz-covariant Dirac-like equation. A fundamental assumption inherent in the standard Lambda+CDM Hot Big Bang (HBB) model is that photons lose energy as they are redshifted due to the expansion of the universe. We calculate the nucleon parameters in nuclear matter using the QCD sum rules method. The radiative corrections to the leading operator product expansion terms are included, with the corrections of the order α_s beyond the logarithmic approximation taken into account. The density dependence of the influence of radiative corrections on the nucleon parameters

Obscured by their circumstellar dusty envelopes post-AGB stars emit a large fraction of their energy in the infrared and thus, infrared sky surveys like IRAS were essential for discoveries of post-AGBs in the past. Now, with the AKARI infrared sky survey we can extend our knowledge about the late stages of stellar evolution. The long-term goal of our work is

We investigate constrained optimal control problems for linear stochastic dynamical systems evolving in discrete time. We consider minimization of an expected value cost over a finite horizon. Hard constraints are introduced first, and then reformulated in terms of probabilistic constraints. It is shown that, for a suitable parametrization of the control pol

We analytically study entanglement generation through an open quantum dot system described by the two-lead Anderson model. We exactly obtain the transition rate between the non-entangled incident state in one lead and the outgoing spin-singlet state in the other lead. In the cotunneling process, only the spin-singlet state can transmit. To discuss such an en

The dynamics of entanglement between two photons with one of them passing through noisy quantum channels is characterized. It is described by a simple factorization law which was first theoretically proposed by Konrad {\it et al.} [Nature Phys., 4, 99 (2008)]. Quantum state tomography process is employed to reconstruct the reduced density matrixes of the fin

The entanglement in many-electron states is investigated using a global entanglement measure, viz. average site mixedness. We have examined metallic states of noninteracting electrons, Nagaoka and Gutzwiller states of strongly-correlated electrons, and superconducting states. Uncorrelated metallic states at half filling seem to maximize entanglement, as thes

We simulate loop-erased random walks on simple (hyper-)cubic lattices of dimensions 2,3, and 4. These simulations were mainly motivated to test recent two loop renormalization group predictions for logarithmic corrections in $d=4$, simulations in lower dimensions were done for completeness and in order to test the algorithm. In $d=2$, we verify with high pre
A note on the paper by Eckstein and Svaiter on "General projective splitting methods for sums of maximal monotone operators"
math.FAHeinz H. Bauschke
In their recent SIAM J. Control Optim. paper from 2009, J. Eckstein and B.F. Svaiter proposed a very general and flexible splitting framework for finding a zero of the sum of finitely many maximal monotone operators. In this short note, we provide a technical result that allows for the removal of Eckstein and Svaiter's assumption that the sum of the oper

The power spectrum of HI intensity fluctuation of the interstellar medium carries information of the turbulence dynamics therein. We present a method to estimate the power spectrum of HI intensity fluctuation using radio interferometric observations. The method involves correlating the visibilities in the u-v plane at different baselines. This method is part
Creating traveling waves from standing waves from the gyrotropic paramagnetic properties of Fe$^{3+}$ ions in a high-Q whispering gallery mode sapphire resonator

We report observations of the gyrotropic change in magnetic susceptibility of the Fe$^{3+}$ electron paramagnetic resonance at 12.037GHz (between spin states $|1/2>$ and $|3/2>$) in sapphire with respect to applied magnetic field. Measurements were made by observing the response of the high-Q Whispering Gallery doublet (WGH$_{\pm17,0,0}$) in a Hemex sapphire

This paper studies the design of a decentralized multiuser multi-antenna (MIMO) system for spectrum sharing over a fixed narrow band, where the coexisting users independently update their transmit covariance matrices for individual transmit-rate maximization via an iterative manner. This design problem was usually investigated in the literature by assuming t

The # component model was proposed to improve the practice of parallel programming. This paper introduces a type system for # programming systems, aiming to lift the abstraction and safety of programming for parallel computing architectures by introducing a notion of abstract component based on universal and existential bounded quantification. Issues about t

We study the problem of selling identical goods to n unit-demand bidders in a setting in which the total supply of goods is unknown to the mechanism. Items arrive dynamically, and the seller must make the allocation and payment decisions online with the goal of maximizing social welfare. We consider two models of unknown supply: the adversarial supply model,

Catalogs of periodic variable stars contain large numbers of periodic light-curves (photometric time series data from the astrophysics domain). Separating anomalous objects from well-known classes is an important step towards the discovery of new classes of astronomical objects. Most anomaly detection methods for time series data assume either a single conti

In future high-cadence microlensing surveys, planets can be detected through a new channel of an independent event produced by the planet itself. The two populations of planets to be detected through this channel are wide-separation planets and free-floating planets. Although they appear as similar short time-scale events, the two populations of planets are

By extending the lepton sector of standard model to include one sterile neutrino and two sets of new Higgs doublets and right-handed neutrinos, denoted by $(η_1, N_1, N_3)$ and $(η_2, N_2, N_4)$, with two $Z_2$ symmetries, the puzzles of neutrino masses, matter-antimatter asymmetry and cosmic-ray excess observed by Fermi-LAT and PAMELA can be resolved simult
