In the framework of the so called link approach we study exact lattice supersymmetry for the simplest supersymmetric model: N=1 supersymmetry in D=1. The model is described by a lattice with spacing a/2, thus containing twice as many sites as the conventional one. The boson and fermion are related through a 2pi/a momentum shift, which can provide an interpre

We present a novel method to compute the overlap Dirac operator at zero and nonzero quark chemical potential. To approximate the sign function of large, sparse matrices, standard methods project the operator on a much smaller Krylov subspace, on which the matrix function is computed exactly. The mean free path of neutrino in charged and neutral current reactions is calculated for inhomogeneous nuclear matter which is expected to appear in the crust of neutron stars. The relevant cross section depends on Fermi and Gamow-Teller strength distributions, which are derived from the large-scale shell model calculations within the self-consistent Skyrme

We calculate Wilson loops of various sizes up to loop order $n=20$ for lattice sizes of $L^4 (L=4, 6, 8, 12)$ using the technique of Numerical Stochastic Perturbation Theory in quenched QCD. This allows to investigate the behaviour of the perturbative series at high orders. We discuss three models to estimate the perturbative series: a renormalon inspired fi

The flux tube between a quark and an antiquark in Coulomb gauge is imagined in the gluon-chain model as a sequence of constituent gluons bound together by Coulombic nearest-neighbor interactions. We diagonalize the transfer matrix in SU(2) lattice gauge theory in a finite basis of states containing a static quark-antiquark pair together with zero, one, and t

We study the propagation effects of radio waves in a pulsar magnetosphere, composed of relativistic electron-positron pair plasmas streaming along the magnetic field lines and corotating with the pulsar. We critically examine the various physical effects that can potentially influence the observed wave intensity and polarization, including resonant cyclotron

Based on an exact formalism, we study the effects of isospin-symmetry-breaking interactions on superallowed 0+ -> 0+ transitions. We calculate the second-order renormalization of the Fermi matrix element due to radial contributions and show that radial excitations neglected in the treatment of Towner and Hardy are significant. These are estimated to decrease

We present an overview of the correlation-matrix methods developed recently by the CSSM Lattice Collaboration for the isolation of excited states of the nucleon. Of particular interest is the first positive-parity excited-state of the nucleon known as the Roper resonance. Using eigenvectors of the correlation matrix we construct parity and eigenstate project
Energy-dependent scaling of incoherent spectral weight and the origin of the waterfalls in high-Tc cuprates

The exotic physics in condensed matter systems, such as high-Tc superconductivity in cuprates, is due to the properties of the elementary excitations and their interactions. The dispersion of the electronic states revealed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) provides a chance to understand these excitations. Recently, a "high energy anom

Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective variety of dimension three and let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. In this paper, we provide a lower bound of the dimension of the global sections of $m(K_{X}+L)$ under the assumption that $κ(K_{X}+L)$ is non-negative. In particular, we get the following: (1) if $κ(K_{X}+L)$ is greater than or equal to zero and less

Using both perturbation theory in the Euclidean formalism as well as the non-perturbative Fujikawa's method, we verify that the chiral anomaly equation remains unaffected in continuum QCD in the presence of nonzero chemical potential, μ. We extend our considerations to lattice fermions with exact chiral symmetry and discuss the consequences for the recen

We consider dc-conductivity $σ$ of a mixture of small conducting and insulating grains slightly below the percolation threshold, where finite clusters of conducting grains are characterized by a wide spectrum of sizes. The charge transport is controlled by tunneling of carriers between neighboring conducting clusters via short ``links'' consisting of

The impact of stout-link smearing in lattice fermion actions is examined through the consideration of the mass and renormalization functions of the overlap quark propagator over a variety of smeared configurations. Up to six sweeps of stout-link smearing are investigated. For heavy quark masses, the quark propagator is strongly affected by the smearing proce

We observe a novel type of vector dark soliton in a fiber ring laser. The vector dark soliton consists of stable localized structures separating the two orthogonal linear polarization eigenstates of the laser emission and is visible only when the total laser emission is measured. Moreover, polarization domain splitting and moving polarization domain walls (P

We propose methods to create fractional vortices in the cyclic state of an F = 2 spinor Bose-Einstein condensate by manipulating its internal spin structure using pulsed microwave and laser fields. The stability of such vortices is studied as a function of the rotation frequency of the confining harmonic trap both in pancake and cigar shaped condensates. We

In this paper, we develop a new approach to gravity-gradient noise subtraction for underground gravitational-wave detectors in homogeneous rock. The method is based on spatial harmonic expansions of seismic fields. It is shown that gravity-gradient noise produced by seismic fields from distant sources, stationary or non-stationary, can be calculated from sei

We say that a cyclotomic polynomial Φ_{n}(x) has order three if n is the product of three distinct primes, p<q<r. Let A(n) be the largest absolute value of a coefficient of Φ_{n}(x) and M(p) be the maximum of A(pqr). In 1968, Sister Marion Beiter conjectured that A(pqr)<=(p+1)/2. In 2008, Yves Gallot and Pieter Moree showed that the conjecture is false for e
