In this article, we establish Gaussian decay for the Box_b-heat kernel on polynomial models in C^2. Our technique attains the exponential decay via a partial Fourier transform. On the transform side, the problem becomes finding quantitative smoothness estimates on a heat kernel associated to the weighted dbar-operator on L^2(C). The bounds are established wi

A remarkable U(1) gauge extension of the supersymmetric standard model was proposed eight years ago. It is anomaly-free, has no mu term, and conserves baryon and lepton numbers automatically. A Chandra X-ray imaging observation of the jet in Pictor A showed a feature that appears to be a flare that faded between 2000 and 2002. The feature was not detected in a follow-up observation in 2009. The jet itself is over 150 kpc long and a kpc wide, so finding year-long variability is surprising. Assuming a synchrotron origin of the observed high-energy

A set-system $X$ is a $(λ, κ,μ)$-system iff $|X|=λ$, $|x|=κ$ for each $x\in X$, and $X$ is $μ$-almost disjoint. We write $[λ, κ, μ] -> ρ$ iff every $(λ, κ,μ)$-system has a "conflict free coloring with $ρ$ colors", i.e. there is a coloring of the elements of $\cup X$ with$ρ$ colors such that for each element $x$ of $X$ there is a color $ξ<ρ$ such that

We investigate the electronic structure of Chromium Nitride (CrN) across the first-order magneto-structural transition at T_N ~ 286 K. Resonant photoemission spectroscopy shows a gap in the 3d partial density of states at the Fermi level and an On-site Coulomb energy U ~ 4.5 eV, indicating strong electron-electron correlations. Bulk-sensitive high resolution

An electrical analysis is performed for a memristor crossbar array integrated with operational amplifiers including the effects of parasitic or contact resistances. It is shown that the memristor crossbar array can act as a transfer matrix for a multiple input-multiple output signal processing system. Special cases of the transfer matrix are described relate
Atomically Resolved Surface Structure of SrTiO3(001) Thin Films Grown in Step-Flow Mode by Pulsed Laser Deposition

The surface structure of SrTiO3(001) thin films homoepitaxially grown by PLD in step-flow mode was characterized using low temperature STM. It was found that one-dimensional (1D) TiOx-based nanostructures were formed on the thin film surface and their density increased with increasing thin film thickness. Most of the 1D nanostructures disappeared after a pos

The aim of this paper is to make sample computations with the Salvetti complex of the "center of mass" arrangement introduced in [arXiv:math/0611732] by Cohen and Kamiyama. We compute the homology of the Salvetti complex of these arrangements with coefficients in the sign representation of symmetric groups on F_p in the case of four particles. We sho

We have investigated the mid-infrared (MIR) and visual structures of seven bipolar planetary nebulae (BPNe), using imaging and spectroscopy acquired using the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST), and the Observatorio Astronomico Nacional in Mexico. The results show that the sources are more extended towards longer MIR wavelengths, as well as having higher levels o

We developed a four-channel superconducting nanowire single-photon detector system based on a Gifford-McMahon cryocooler. All channels showed a system detection efficiency (at a 100 Hz dark-count rate) higher than 16% at 1550 nm wavelength, and the best channel showed a system DE of 21% and 30% at 1550 nm and 1310 nm wavelength, respectively.
Stability of Rarefaction Waves to the 1D Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations with Density-dependent Viscosity

In this paper, we study the asymptotic stability of rarefaction waves for the compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity. First, a weak solution around a rarefaction wave to the Cauchy problem is constructed by approximating the system and regularizing the initial values which may contain vacuum state. Then some global i

We generalize Bourgain-Lindenstrauss-Michel-Venkatesh's recent one-dimensional quantitative density result to abelian algebraic actions on higher dimensional tori. Up to finite index, the group actions that we study are conjugate to the action of $U_K$, the group of units of some non-CM number field $K$, on a compact quotient of $K\otimes_{\mathbb Q}\mat

Applications of compressed sensing motivate the possibility of using different operators to encode and decode a signal of interest. Since it is clear that the operators cannot be too different, we can view the discrepancy between the two matrices as a perturbation. The stability of L1-minimization and greedy algorithms to recover the signal in the presence o
Stability of low-friction surface sliding of nanocrystals with rectangular symmetry and application to W on NaF(001)
cond-mat.mes-hallAstrid S. de Wijn, Annalisa Fasolino
We investigate the stability of low-friction sliding of nanocrystal with rectangular atomic arrangement on rectangular lattices, for which analytical results can be obtained. We find that several incommensurate periodic orbits exist and are stable against thermal fluctuations and other perturbations. As incommensurate orientations lead to low corrugation, an

A Chebyshev-type quadrature for a probability measure sigma is a distribution which is uniform on n points and has the same first k moments as sigma. We give an upper bound for the minimal n required to achieve a given degree k, for sigma supported on an interval. In contrast to previous results of this type, our bound uses only simple properties of sigma an
