We study the classical Euclidean wormholes in the context of extended theories of gravity. With no loss of generality, we use the dynamical equivalence between $f(\tilde{R})$ gravity and scalar-tensor theories to construct a point-like Lagrangian in the flat FRW space time. The sign problem and population dynamics in the full configuration interaction quantum Monte Carlo method
physics.comp-phJ. S. Spencer, N. S. Blunt, W. M. C. Foulkes
The recently proposed full configuration interaction quantum Monte Carlo method allows access to essentially exact ground-state energies of systems of interacting fermions substantially larger than previously tractable without knowledge of the nodal structure of the ground-state wave function. Does the Borexino experiment have enough resolution to detect the neutrino flavor day-night asymmetry?

The Earth's density distribution can be approximately considered piecewise continuous at the scale of two-flavor oscillations of neutrinos with energies about 1 MeV. In this paper we describe the amalgamated free product of two hyperfinite von Neumann algebras over a finite dimensional subalgebra. In general the free product is a finite direct sum of interpolated free group factors and a hyperfinite von Neumann algebra. We then show that the class of von Neumann algebras of this form is closed under taking amalgamated fr
Unoccupied electronic structure of TiOCl studied by x-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy

We study the unoccupied electronic structure of the spin-1/2 quantum magnet TiOCl by x-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) at the Ti L and O K edges. Data is acquired both in total electron and fluorescence yield mode (TEY and FY, respectively). While only the latter allows to access the unconventional low-temperature spin-Peierls (SP) phase of TiO

The intended purpose of this work is to provide the reader with a comprehensive, state-of-the art presentation of the theory of complex Hadamard matrices, or at least report on the very recent advances. This manuscript consists of three chapters, each describing one of three distinct faces of this field whose treatment require various mathematical tools rang

We present a near-infrared spectroscopic study of a stellar mass selected sample of galaxies at z~1 utilising the LIRIS multi-object spectrograph on the WHT. We detect continuum, and the H alpha line for our sample, which is one of the better direct tracers of star formation in external galaxies. We spectroscopically measure the H alpha emission from 41 mass

The peculiarities of the microstrip-DC SQUID amplifier caused by the resonant structure of the input circuit are analyzed. It is shown that the mutual inductance, that couples the input circuit and the SQUID loop, depends on the frequency of electromagnetic field. The renormalization of the SQUID parameters due to the screening effect of the input circuit va

This study analyses, through cross-section estimation methods, the influence of spatial effects in productivity (product per worker), at economic sectors level of the NUTs III of mainland Portugal, from 1995 to 1999 and from 2000 to 2005 (taking in count the data availability and the Portuguese and European context), considering the Verdoorn relationship. We investigate the interrelation between graph searching games and games with imperfect information. As key consequence we obtain that parity games with bounded imperfect information can be solved in PTIME on graphs of bounded DAG-width which generalizes several results for parity games on graphs of bounded complexity. We use a new concept of graph searching

Web Services (WS) have become one the most used technologies nowadays in software systems. Among the challenges when integrating WS in a given system, requirements-driven selection occupies a prominent place. A comprehensive selection process needs to check compliance of Non-Functional Requirements (NFR), which can be assessed by analysing WS Quality of Serv

The consideration of spatial effects at a regional level is becoming increasingly frequent and the work of Anselin (1988), among others, has contributed to this. This study analyses, through cross-section estimation methods, the influence of spatial effects in productivity (product per worker) in the NUTs III economic sectors of mainland Portugal from 1995 t

We apply a linearized stability analysis to simplified models of accretion-phase neutrino fluxes streaming from a supernova. We compare the results with recent numerical studies and find excellent agreement. This provides confidence that a linearized stability analysis can be further applied to more realistic models.

This study analyses, through cross-section estimation methods, the influence of spatial effects and human capital in the conditional productivity convergence (product per worker) in the economic sectors of NUTs III of mainland Portugal between 1995 and 2002. To analyse the data, Moran's I statistics is considered, and it is stated that productivity is su

The C/O ratio is predicted to regulate the atmospheric chemistry in hot Jupiters. Recent observations suggest that some exo-planets, e.g. Wasp 12- b, have atmospheric C/O ratios substantially different from the solar value of 0.54. In this paper we present a mechanism that can produce such atmospheric deviations from the stellar C/O ratio. In protoplanetary
Transitional dynamics of a phase qubit-resonator system: requirements for fast readout of a phase qubit

We examine the non-stationary evolution of a coupled qubit-transmission line-resonator system coupled to an external drive and the resonator environment. By solving the equation for a non-stationary resonator field, we determined the requirements for a single-shot non-destructive dispersive measurement of the phase qubit state. Reliable isolation of the qubi

This work aims mainly to present a project of research about the identification of the determinants that affect the mobility of labor. The empirical part of the work will be performed for the NUTS II and NUTS III of Portugal, from 1996 to 2002 and for 1991 and 2001, respectively (given the availability of statistical data). As main conclusion it can be said,
