We show how a parameterized family of maps of the spine of a manifold can be used to construct a family of homeomorphisms of the ambient manifold which have the inverse limits of the spine maps as global attractors. We describe applications to unimodal families of interval maps, to rotation sets, and to the standard family of circle maps.

A new method for detecting the magnetic resonance of electronic spins at low temperature is demonstrated. It consists in measuring the signal emitted by the spins with a superconducting qubit that acts as a single-microwave-photon detector, resulting in an enhanced sensitivity. We implement this new type of electron-spin resonance spectroscopy using a hybrid

The unbound excited states of the neutron drip-line isotope 24O have been investigated via the 24O(p,p')23O+n reaction in inverse kinematics at a beam energy of 62 MeV/nucleon. We consider a coarse-grained model in which polymers under good-solvent conditions are represented by soft spheres whose radii, which should be identified with the polymer radii of gyrations, are allowed to fluctuate. The problem of finding a nontrivial factor of a polynomial f(x) over a finite field F_q has many known efficient, but randomized, algorithms. Transmission capacity of an ad hoc wireless network is analyzed when each node of the network harvests energy from nature, e.g. solar, wind, vibration etc. Transmission capacity is the maximum allowable density of nodes, satisfying a per transmitter-receiver rate, and an outage probability constraint. In this paper we describe conjugacy classes of a Renner monoid $R$ with unit group $W$, the Weyl group. We show that every element in $R$ is conjugate to an element $ue$ where $u\in W$ and $e$ is an idempotent in a cross section lattice. Denote by $W(e)$ and $W_*(e)$ the centralizer and stabilizer of $e\in Λ$ in $W$, respectively. Let $W(e)$ act by conjugati

The connection between discrete and continuous dynamical systems through the unit-time map has shown a significant role in bifurcation theory. Recently, it has also been used in fractal analysis of bifurcations. We study fractal properties of the unit-time map near nilpotent nonmonodromic singularities of planar vector fields using normal forms. We are inter

Currently, optical- or mechanical-resonances are commonly used in microfluidic research. However, optomechanical oscillations by light pressure were not shown with liquids. This is because replacing the surrounding air with water inherently increases the acoustical impedance and hence the associated acoustical radiation-losses. Here, we bridge between microf

Let $D$ be a Riemannian 2-disc of area $A$, diameter $d$ and length of the boundary $L$. We prove that it is possible to contract the boundary of $D$ through curves of length $\leq L + 200d\max\{1,\ln {\sqrt{A}\over d} \}$. This answers a twenty-year old question of S. Frankel and M. Katz, a version of which was asked earlier by M.Gromov. We also prove that

We consider the problem of regularized maximum likelihood estimation for the structure and parameters of a high-dimensional, sparse directed acyclic graphical (DAG) model with Gaussian distribution, or equivalently, of a Gaussian structural equation model. We show that the $\ell_0$-penalized maximum likelihood estimator of a DAG has about the same number of
Supersymmetrization of horizontality condition: nilpotent symmetries for a free spinning relativistic particle
hep-thA. Shukla, S. Krishna, R. P. Malik
We derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations for a supersymmetric system of a free spinning relativistic particle within the framework of superfield approach to BRST formalism. A novel feature of our present investigation is the consistent and clear supersymmetric modif

We prove the positivity conjecture for skew-symmetric coefficient-free cluster algebras of rank 3.

We modify the definition of the families of $A$ and $B$ stringy cohomology spaces associated to a pair of dual reflexive Gorenstein cones. The new spaces have the same dimension as the ones defined in the joint paper with Mavlyutov \cite{BM}, but they admit natural flat connections with respect to the appropriate parameters. This solves a longstanding questi

We study extremal black hole solutions to four dimensional N=2 supergravity based on a cubic symmetric scalar manifold. Using the coset construction available for these models, we define the first order flow equations implied by the corresponding nilpotency conditions on the three-dimensional scalar momenta for the composite non-BPS class of multi-centre bla
Well-posedness results for the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation via the contraction principle
math.APGermán Fonseca, Felipe Linares, Gustavo Ponce
We study the initial value problem associated to the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation. Our aim is to establish well-posedness results in weighted Sobolev spaces via contraction principle under minimal requirements in the weighted order of the space. One of our new main ideas is the deduction of a pointwise estimate concerning the group describing

We consider random walk among random conductances where the conductance environment is shift invariant and ergodic. We study which moment conditions of the conductances guarantee speed zero of the random walk. We show that if there exists α>1 such that E[log^α(ω_e)]<\infty, then the random walk has speed zero. On the other hand, for each α>1 we provide examp
Hölder estimates for solutions of the Cauchy problem for the porous medium equation with external forces
math.APMasashi Mizuno
We study the interior Hölder regularity problem for weak solutions of the porous medium equation with external forces. Since the porous medium equation is the typical example of degenerate parabolic equations, Hölder regularity is a delicate matter and does not follow by classical methods. Caffrelli-Friedman, and Caffarelli-Vazquez-Wolansky showed Hölder reg

The process of gluon-initiated double Higgs production is sensitive to non-linear interactions of the Higgs boson. In the context of the Standard Model, studies of this process focused on the extraction of the Higgs trilinear coupling. In a general parametrization of New Physics effects, however, an even more interesting interaction that can be tested throug

In this paper, the filter-and-forward (FF) relay design for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission systems is considered to improve the system performance over simple amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying. Unlike conventional OFDM relays performing OFDM demodulation and remodulation, to reduce processing complexity, the proposed FF relay
The BaBar Collaboration
Based on the full BaBar data sample, we report improved measurements of the ratios R(D(*)) = B(B -> D(*) Tau Nu)/B(B -> D(*) l Nu), where l is either e or mu. These ratios are sensitive to new physics contributions in the form of a charged Higgs boson. We measure R(D) = 0.440 +- 0.058 +- 0.042 and R(D*) = 0.332 +- 0.024 +- 0.018, which exceed the Standard Mo
