We study turn-based quantitative multiplayer non zero-sum games played on finite graphs with reachability objectives. In such games, each player aims at reaching his own goal set of states as soon as possible. A previous work on this model showed that Nash equilibria (resp. secure equilibria) are guaranteed to exist in the multiplayer (resp. two-player) case

This is a supplement to an earlier paper (PRD 84, 023510 (2011)), where those shearfree normal cosmological models were identified, in which all light rays have repeatable paths. All of them are conformally flat, but less general than the Stephani model and more general than Robertson --Walker. In this note, their defining feature is identified: in each of t

Barenblatt solutions and asymptotic behaviour for a nonlinear fractional heat equation of porous medium type
math.APJuan Luis Vazquez
We establish the existence and uniqueness of fundamental solutions for the fractional porous medium equation introduced in \cite{PQRV1}. As a main application of this construction, we prove that the asymptotic behaviour of general solutions is represented b
Structure and the Lamb-shift-like quantum splitting of the pseudo-zero-mode Landau levels in bilayer graphene
cond-mat.mes-hallK. Shizuya
In a magnetic field bilayer graphene supports an octet of zero-energy Landau levels with an extra twofold degeneracy in Landau orbitals n=0 and n=1. It is shown that this orbital degeneracy is lifted due to Coulombic quantum fluctuations of the valence band (the Dirac sea); this is a quantum effect analogous to the Lamb shift in the hydrogen atom. We study the synchrotron-like gluon emission in $AA$-collisions from fast partons due to interaction with the coherent glasma color fields. Our results show that for RHIC and LHC conditions the contribution of this mechanism to parton energy loss is much smaller than the radiative energy loss in the plasma phase.

We propose a scheme for entangling the optical and microwave output modes of the respective cavities by using a micro mechanical resonator. The micro-mechanical resonator on one side is capacitively coupled to the microwave cavity and on the other side is coupled to a high finesses optical cavity. We then show how this continuous variable entanglement can be
Bounded Global Optimization for Polynomial Programming using Binary Reformulation and Linearization
math.OCJoseph W. Norman
This paper describes an approximate method for global optimization of polynomial programming problems with bounded variables. The method uses a reformulation and linearization technique to transform the original polynomial optimization problem into a pair of mixed binary-linear programs. The solutions to these two integer-linear reformulations provide upper

We address the problem of recognizing alpha-stable Levy distribution with Levy index close to 2 from experimental data. We are interested in the case when the sample size of available data is not large, thus the power law asymptotics of the distribution is not clearly detectable, and the shape of empirical probability density function is close to a Gaussian.
Topological aberration of optical vortex beams and singularimetry of dielectric interfaces
physics.opticsMark R. Dennis, Jörg B. Götte
The splitting of a high-order optical vortex into a constellation of unit vortices, upon total reflection, is described and analyzed. The vortex constellation generalizes, in a local sense, the familiar longitudinal Goos-Hänchen and transverse Imbert-Federov shifts of the centroid of a reflected optical beam. The centroid shift is related to the centre of th

We use an elastic model to explore faceting of solid-wall vesicles with elastic heterogeneities. We show that faceting occurs in regions where the vesicle wall is softer, such as areas of reduced wall thicknesses or concentrated in crystalline defects. The elastic heterogeneities are modeled as a second component with reduced elastic parameters. Using simula

We consider the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system in the singular limit for the small Mach and large Reynolds and Peclet numbers, with ill prepared initial data on the three dimensional Euclidean space. The Euler-Boussinesq approximation is identified as the limit system.

Formulas for calculation of transversal dielectric function and transversal electric conductivity in quantum non-degenerate collisional plasmas under arbitrary degree of degeneracy of the electron gas are received. The Wigner-Vlasov-Boltzmann kinetic equation with collision integral in BGK (Bhatnagar, Gross and Krook) form in coordinate space is used. Variou

We study the universal measuring coalgebras P(A,B) of Sweedler and the universal measuring comodules Q(M,N) of Batchelor. We show that these universal objects exist in a very general context. We provide a detailed proof of an observation of Wraith, that the P(A,B) are the hom-objects of an enrichment of algebras in coalgebras. We show also that the Q(M,N) pr
The Chemistry of Interstellar OH+, H2O+, and H3O+: Inferring the Cosmic Ray Ionization Rates from Observations of Molecular Ions

We model the production of OH+, H2O+, and H3O+ in interstellar clouds, using a steady state photodissociation region code that treats the freeze-out of gas species, grain surface chemistry, and desorption of ices from grains. The code includes PAHs, which have important effects on the chemistry. All three ions generally have two peaks in abundance as a funct
Minimizing Rational Functions by Exact Jacobian SDP Relaxation Applicable to Finite Singularities
math.OCFeng Guo, Li Wang, Guangming Zhou
This paper considers the optimization problem of minimizing a rational function. We reformulate this problem as polynomial optimization by the technique of homogenization. These two problems are shown to be equivalent under some generic conditions. The exact Jacobian SDP relaxation method proposed by Nie is used to solve the resulting polynomial optimization

In this study we investigated the sorption ability of Ge20Se80 thin films applied as active layers of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) for NO2 gas sensing. To identify the chalcogenide system appropriate for gas sensing, we provided data for the packing fraction of a number of chalcogenide systems and discussed their suitability. We performed Raman spectros
Monitoring Software Reliability using Statistical Process Control An Ordered Statistics Approach
cs.SEBandla Srinivasa Rao, R. Satya Prasad, R. R. L. Kantham
The nature and complexity of software have changed significantly in the last few decades. With the easy availability of computing power, deeper and broader applications are made. It has been extremely necessary to produce good quality software with high precession of reliability right in the first place. Olden day's software errors and bugs were fixed at

Reference prices have long been studied in applied economics and business research. One of the classic formulations of the reference price is in terms of an iterative function of past prices. There are a number of limitations of such a formulation, however. Such limitations include burdensome computational time to estimate parameters, an inability to truly a

Neural populations encode information about their stimulus in a collective fashion, by joint activity patterns of spiking and silence. A full account of this mapping from stimulus to neural activity is given by the conditional probability distribution over neural codewords given the sensory input. To be able to infer a model for this distribution from large-

We restrict a quantum particle under a coulombian potential (i.e., the Schrödinger operator with inverse of the distance potential) to three dimensional tubes along the x-axis and diameter $\varepsilon$, and study the confining limit $\varepsilon\to0$. In the repulsive case we prove a strong resolvent convergence to a one-dimensional limit operator, which pr
