In this paper, we construct thin-shell wormholes in (2+1)-dimensions from noncommutative BTZ black hole by applying the cut-and-paste procedure implemented by Visser. We calculate the surface stresses localized at the wormhole throat by using the Darmois-Israel formalism, and we find that the wormholes are supported by matter violating the energy conditions.

This note reveals an explicit relationship between two representative finite impulse response (FIR) filters, i.e. the newly derived and popularized Kalman-Like unbiased FIR filter (UFIR) and the receding horizon Kalman FIR filter (RHKF). It is pointed out that the only difference of the two algorithms lies in the noise statistics ignorance and appropriate in

Inferring the number of planets $N$ in an exoplanetary system from radial velocity (RV) data is a challenging task. Recently, it has become clear that RV data can contain periodic signals due to stellar activity, which can be difficult to distinguish from planetary signals. However, even doing the inference under a given set of simplifying assumptions (e.g.

Quantum walks can be defined in two quite distinct ways: discrete-time and continuous-time quantum walks (DTQWs and CTQWs). For classical random walks, there is a natural sense in which continuous-time walks are a limit of discrete-time walks. Quantum mechanically, in the discrete-time case, an additional "coin space" must be appended for the walk to

In this paper we improve the result about the polyconvexity of the energies from the family of isotropic volumetric-isochoric decoupled strain exponentiated Hencky energies defined in the first part of this series, i.e. $$ W_{_{\rm eH}}(F)= \left\{\begin{array}{lll} \fracμ{k}\,e^{k\,\|{\rm dev}_n\log U\|^2}+\fracκ{2\,\widehat{k}}\,e^{\widehat{k}\,[(\log {\rm

Ejiri's torus in $S^5$ is the first example of Willmore surface which is not conformally equivalent to any minimal surface in any space forms. Li and Vrancken classified all Willmore surfaces of tensor product in $S^{n}$ by reducing them into elastic curves in $S^3$, and the Ejiri torus appeared as a special example. In this paper, we first prove that am

The effect of shear flow on mode selection and the length scale of patterns formed in a nonlinear auto-catalytic reaction-diffusion model is investigated. We predict analytically the existence of transverse and longitudinal modes. The type of the selected mode strongly depends on the difference in the flow rates of the participating species, quantified by th

Visualization using tracer particles is a relatively new tool available for the study of superfluid turbulence and flow, which is applied here to oscillating objects submerged in the liquid. We report observations of a structure seen in videos taken from outside a cryostat filled with superfluid helium at 2 K, which is possibly a vortex loop attached to an o
The Bochner-Type Formula and The First Eigenvalue of the sub-Laplacian on a Contact Riemannian Manifold
math.DGFeifan Wu, Wei Wang
Contact Riemannian manifolds, with not necessarily integrable complex structures, are the generalization of pseudohermitian manifolds in CR geometry. The Tanaka-Webster-Tanno connection on such a manifold plays the role of Tanaka-Webster connection in the pseudohermitian case. We prove the contact Riemannian version of the pseudohermitian Bochner-type formul

In this paper we characterize a mathematical model called Maximum Common Subelement (MCS) Model and prove the existence of four different metrics on such model. We generalize metrics on graphs previously proposed in the literature and identify new ones by showing three different examples of MCS Models on graphs based on (1) subgraphs, (2) induced subgraphs a

We previously obtained constraints on the viewing geometries of 6 Fermi LAT pulsars using a multiwavelength approach (Seyffert et al., 2011). To obtain these constraints we compared the observed radio and $γ$-ray light curves (LCs) for those 6 pulsars by eye to LCs predicted by geometric models detailing the location and extent of emission regions in a pulsa
Lasing Threshold Condition for Oblique TE and TM Modes, Spectral Singularities, and Coherent Perfect Absorption
quant-phAli Mostafazadeh, Mustafa Sarisaman
We study spectral singularities and their application in determining the threshold gain coefficient $g^{(E/M)}$ for oblique transverse electric/magnetic (TE/TM) modes of an infinite planar slab of homogenous optically active material. We show that $g^{(E)}$ is a monotonically decreasing function of the incidence angle $θ$ (measured with respect to the normal

In this paper, we prove some well-known results on local cohomology with respect to a pair of ideals in graded version, such as, Independence Theorem, Lichtenbaum-Harshorne Vanishing Theorem, Basic Finiteness and Vanishing Theorem, among others. Besides, we present a generalized version of Melkersson Theorem about Artinianess of modules and a result concerni

We study the problem of computing the conformal modulus of rings and quadrilaterals with strong singularities and cusps on their boundary. We reduce this problem to the numerical solution of the associated Dirichlet and Dirichlet-Neumann type boundary values problems for the Laplace equation. Several experimental results, with error estimates, are reported.
Insulating state in tetralayers reveals an even-odd interaction effect in multilayer graphene

The absence of an energy gap separating valence and conduction bands makes the low-energy electronic properties of graphene and its multi-layers sensitive to electron-electron interactions. In bilayers, for instance, interactions are predicted to open a gap at charge neutrality, turning the system into an insulator, as observed experimentally. In mono and (B

The 2014 update of the discovery of nuclide project is presented. Only six new nuclides were observed for the first time in 2014 while the assignments of seventeen other nuclides were revised. In addition, for another fourteen nuclides the laboratories where they were discovered were reassigned.

A MapReduce algorithm can be described by a mapping schema, which assigns inputs to a set of reducers, such that for each required output there exists a reducer that receives all the inputs that participate in the computation of this output. Reducers have a capacity, which limits the sets of inputs that they can be assigned. However, individual inputs may va
Simultaneous Localization of Electrons in different $Δ$-valleys in Ge/Si Quantum Dot Structures

In the present work the possibility of simultaneous localization of two electrons in $Δ^{100}$ and $Δ^{001}$ valleys in ordered structures with Ge/Si(001) quantum dots (QD) was verified experimentally by the electron spin resonance (ESR) method. The ESR spectra obtained for the ordered ten-layered QD structure in the dark show the signal corresponding to ele

We define a tower of affine Temperley-Lieb algebras of type $\tilde{A_{n}}$ and we define Markov elements in those algebras. We prove that any trace over an affine Temperley-Lieb algebras of type $\tilde{A_{2}}$ is uniquely defined by its values on the Markov elements.
