Large subsets of discrete hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{Z}^d$ contain arbitrarily many collinear points
math.COJoel Moreira, Florian Karl Richter
In 1977 L.T. Ramsey showed that any sequence in $\mathbb{Z}^2$ with bounded gaps contains arbitrarily many collinear points. Thereafter, in 1980, C. Pomerance provided a density version of this result, relaxing the condition on the sequence from having bounded gaps to having gaps bounded on average. We give a higher dimensional generalization of these result

The Yang-Mills (YM) equation in three spacetime dimensions (3D) can be modified to include a novel parity-preserving interaction term, with inverse mass parameter, in addition to a possible topological mass term. We study the problem HomsTo$H$ of counting, modulo 2, the homomorphisms from an input graph to a fixed undirected graph $H$. In this paper we prove that isoperimetric sets in three-dimensional homogeneous spaces diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^3$ are topological balls. We also prove that in three-dimensional homogeneous spheres isopermetric sets are either two-spheres or symmetric genus-one tori. We then apply our first result to the three-dimensional Heisenberg group $\mathsf{H}^1$,

This essay advocates the view that any problem that has a meaningful empirical content, can be formulated in constructive, more definitely, finite terms. We consider combinatorial models of dynamical systems and approaches to statistical description of such models. We demonstrate that many concepts of continuous physics --- such as continuous symmetries, the

We introduce a critical-state model incorporating the anisotropy of flux-line pinning to analyze the critical states developing in an anisotropic biaxial superconducting slab exposed to a uniform perpendicular magnetic field and to two crossed in-plane magnetic fields which are applied successively. The theory is an extension of the anisotropic collective pi

Parikh matrices have been a powerful tool in arithmetizing words by numerical quantities. However, the dependence on the ordering of the alphabet is inherited by Parikh matrices. Strong M-equivalence is proposed as a canonical alternative to M-equivalence to get rid of this undesirable property. Some characterization of strong M-equivalence for a restricted

The MARS scanner is designed for the x-ray spectroscopic study of samples with the aid of computer tomography methods. Computer tomography allows the reconstruction of slices of an investigated sample using a set of shadow projections obtained for different angles. Projections in the MARS scanner are produced using a cone x-ray beam geometry. Correct reconst

The quantum elliptic $R$-matrices of Baxter-Belavin type satisfy the associative Yang-Baxter equation in ${\rm Mat}(N,\mathbb C)^{\otimes 3}$. The latter can be considered as noncommutative analogue of the Fay identity for the scalar Kronecker function. In this paper we extend the list of $R$-matrix valued analogues of elliptic function identities. In partic

The fast Fourier transform (FFT) is a primitive kernel in numerous fields of science and engineering. OpenFFT is an open-source parallel package for 3-D FFTs, built on a communication-optimal domain decomposition method for achieving minimal volume of communication. In this paper, we analyze and tune the performance of OpenFFT, paying a particular attention

In this paper we prove a relative version of the classical Mumford-Newstead theorem for a family of smooth curves degenerating to a reducible curve with a simple node. We also prove a Torelli-type theorem by showing that certain moduli spaces of torsion-free sheaves on a reducible curve allows us to recover the curve from the moduli space.

Information theory is gaining popularity as a tool to characterize performance of biological systems. However, information is commonly quantified without reference to whether or how a system could extract and use it; as a result, information-theoretic quantities are easily misinterpreted. Here we take the example of pattern-forming developmental systems whic

We use the method of $Γ$-convergence to study the behavior of the Landau-de Gennes model for a nematic liquid crystalline film in the limit of vanishing thickness. In this asymptotic regime, surface energy plays a greater role and we take particular care in understanding its influence on the structure of the minimizers of the derived two-dimensional energy.

We introduce common generalization of (double) Schubert, Grothendieck, Demazure, dual and stable Grothendieck polynomials, and Di Francesco-Zinn-Justin polynomials. Our approach is based on the study of algebraic and combinatorial properties of the reduced rectangular plactic algebra and associated Cauchy kernels.

We study the role of arbitrary (finite) anticanonical transformations in the field-antifield formalism, and the gauge-fixing procedure based on the use of these transformations. The properties of the generating functionals of the Green functions subjected to finite anticanonical transformations are considered.
Pointwise estimates and regularity in geometric optics and other Generated Jacobian Equations
math.APNestor Guillen, Jun Kitagawa
The study of reflector surfaces in geometric optics necessitates the analysis of certain nonlinear equations of Monge-Ampère type known as generated Jacobian equations. These equations, whose general existence theory has been recently developed by Trudinger go beyond the framework of optimal transport. We obtain pointwise estimates for weak solutions of such

Conventional discrete-to-continuum approaches have seen their limitation in describing the collective behaviour of the multi-polar configurations of dislocations, which are widely observed in crystalline materials. The reason is that dislocation dipoles, which play an important role in determining the mechanical properties of crystals, often get smeared out

Model-based analysis tools, built on assumptions and simplifications, are difficult to handle smart grids with data characterized by 4Vs data. This paper, using random matrix theory (RMT), motivates data-driven tools to perceive the complex grids in highdimension; meanwhile, an architecture with detailed procedures is proposed. In algorithm perspective, the
Self-deflecting plasmonic lattice solitons and sur-face modes in chirped plasmonic arrays
physics.opticsChunyan Li, Ran Cui, Fangwei Ye, Yaroslav V. Kartashov
We show that chirped metal-dielectric waveguide arrays with focusing cubic nonlinearity can support plasmonic lattice solitons that undergo self-deflection in the transverse plane. Such lattice solitons are deeply-subwavelength self-sustained excitations, although they cover several periods of the array. Upon propagation, the excitations accelerate in the tra

Building on substantial foundational progress in understanding the effect of a small body's self-field on its own motion, the past 15 years has seen the emergence of several strategies for explicitly computing self-field corrections to the equations of motion of a small, point-like charge. These approaches broadly fall into three categories: (i) mode-sum
