We present present a quantitative experimental investigation of the scalar chiral magnetic order with in $\rm{Nd_3Sb_3Mg_2O_{14}}$. Static magnetization reveals a net ferromagnetic ground state, and inelastic neutron scattering from the hyperfine coupled nuclear spin reveals a local ordered moment of 1.76(6) $\mu_B$, just 61(2)% of the saturated moment size.

Can Local Stress Enhancement Induce Stability in Fracture Processes? Part II: The Shielding Effect
cond-mat.dis-nnJonas T. Kjellstadli, Eivind Bering, Srutarshi Pradhan, Alex Hansen
We use the local load sharing fiber bundle model to demonstrate a shielding effect where strong fibers protect weaker ones. This effect exists due to the local stress enhancement around broken fibers in the local load sharing model, and it is therefore not present in the equal load sharing model. The shielding effect is prominent only after the initial disor

A wide array of machine learning problems are formulated as the minimization of the expectation of a convex loss function on some parameter space. Since the probability distribution of the data of interest is usually unknown, it is is often estimated from training sets, which may lead to poor out-of-sample performance. In this work, we bring new insights in
Possibility to study pentaquark states $P_{c}(4312), P_{c}(4440)$, and $P_{c}(4457)$ in $\gamma p\rightarrow J/\psi p$ reaction
hep-phXiao-Yun Wang, Xu-Rong Chen, Jun He
Inspired by the observation of the pentaquark states $P_{c}(4312),P_{c}(4440)$ and $P_{c}(4457)$ at LHCb, photoproduction of these three $P_{c}$ states via the interaction $\gamma p\rightarrow J/\psi p$ is investigated in an effective Lagrangian approach. The $t$-channel Pomeron exchange diffractive process is considered as the main background for the $J/\ps

Let $S\subset R^n$ be a compact basic semi-algebraic set defined as the real solution set of multivariate polynomial inequalities with rational coefficients. We design an algorithm which takes as input a polynomial system defining $S$ and an integer $p\geq 0$ and returns the $n$-dimensional volume of $S$ at absolute precision $2^{-p}$.Our algorithm relies on

The face of simulation-based training has greatly evolved, with the most recent tools giving the ability to create virtual environments that rival realism. At first glance, it might appear that what the training sector needs is the most realistic simulators possible, but traditional simulators are not necessarily the most efficient or practical training tool
Molecular simulation study of the heat capacity of metastable water between 100K and 300K
cond-mat.softJoel Puibasset, P. Judeinstein, J. -M Zanotti
Molecular simulation study of the heat capacity of metastable water between 100K and 300K Molecular simulations have been used to study the heat capacity of metastable liquid water at low temperature adsorbed on a smooth surface. These calculations aim at modelling water properties measured by experiments performed on water films adsorbed on Vycor nanoporous

Mixing between photons and low-mass bosons is well considered in the literature. The particular case of interest here is with hypothetical gravitons, as we are concerned with the direct conversion of gravitons into photons in the presence of an external magnetic field. We examine whether such a process could produce direct low-frequency radio counterparts to
Voluntary phantom hand and finger movements in transhumeral amputees could be used to naturally control polydigital prostheses
q-bio.NCNathanael Jarrasse, Caroline Nicol, Florian Richer, Amelie Touillet
An arm amputation is extremely invalidating since many of our daily tasks require bi-manual and precise control of hand movements. Perfect hand prostheses should therefore offer a natural, intuitive and cognitively simple control over their numerous biomimetic active degrees of freedom. While efficient polydigital prostheses are commercially available, their

The Gelfand-Kirillov dimension measures the asymptotic growth rate of algebras. For every associative dialgebra $\mathcal{D}$, the quotient $\mathcal{A}_\mathcal{D}:=\mathcal{D}/\mathsf{Id}(S)$, where $\mathsf{Id}(S)$ is the ideal of $\mathcal{D}$ generated by the set $S:=\{x \vdash y-x\dashv y \mid x,y\in \mathcal{D}\}$, is called the associative algebra as

High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) is the most important imaging modality for interstitial lung diseases, where the radiologists are interested in identifying certain patterns, and their volumetric and regional distribution. The use of machine learning can assist the radiologists with both these tasks by performing semantic segmentation. In this pape
Full Scale Proton Beam Impact Testing of new CERN Collimators and Validation of a Numerical Approach for Future Operation
physics.acc-phM. Bergeret, F-X. Nuiry, M. Calviani, M. A. Fraser
New collimators are being produced at CERN in the framework of a large particle accelerator upgrade project to protect beam lines against stray particles. Their movable jaws hold low density absorbers with tight geometric requirements, while being able to withstand direct proton beam impacts. Such events induce considerable thermo-mechanical loads, leading t
The third law of thermodynamics or an absolute definition for Entropy. Part 2 : definitions and applications
physics.ao-phPascal Marquet
This paper is the second part of a previous paper (Marquet, 2019) dealing with the need to define the entropy with an absolute way, by using the third law of thermodynamics. In this second part it is shown that there is a need and interest to define a potential temperature which is a synonym of the moist-air absolute entropy, with several possible novel appl

Carath\'eodorys Theorem of convex hulls plays an important role in convex geometry. In 1982, B\'ar\'any formulated and proved a more general version, called the Colorful Carath\'eodory. This colorful version was even more generalized by Holmsen in 2016. He formulated a combinatorial extension and found a topological proof. Taking a dual point of view we gain

In the minimal SUSY SU(5) GUT with $O(1)$ TeV SUSY particles and $O(1)$ or below self-coupling for the GUT-breaking Higgs field, the width of the dimension-6 proton decay is suppressed below the reach of Hyper-Kamiokande. In this paper, we point out that a SUSY SO(10) GUT which adopts only ${\bf 45}_{\rm H}+{\bf 16}_{\rm H}+{\bf \overline{16}}_{\rm H}$ GUT-b
The third law of thermodynamics or an absolute definition for Entropy. Part 1 : the origin and applications in thermodynamics
physics.ao-phPascal Marquet
This article describes the third law of thermodynamics. This law is often poorly known and is often decried, or even considered optional and irrelevant to describe weather and climate phenomena. This, however, is inaccurate and contrary to scientific facts. A rather exhaustive historical study is proposed here in order to better understand, in another articl

We consider the task of recovering two real or complex $m$-vectors from phaseless Fourier measurements of their circular convolution. Our method is a novel convex relaxation that is based on a lifted matrix recovery formulation that allows a nontrivial convex relaxation of the bilinear measurements from convolution. We prove that if the two signals belong to
Stochastic model of dispersive multi-step polarization switching in ferroelectrics due to spatial electric field distribution
cond-mat.mtrl-sciRuben Khachaturyan, Jan Schultheiss, Jurij Koruza, Yuri A. Genenko
A stochastic model for polarization switching in tetragonal ferroelectric ceramics is introduced, which includes sequential 90{\deg}- and parallel 180{\deg}-switching processes and accounts for the dispersion of characteristic switching times due to a nonuniform spatial distribution of the applied field. It presents merging of the recent multistep stochastic

We propose the Neural Logic Machine (NLM), a neural-symbolic architecture for both inductive learning and logic reasoning. NLMs exploit the power of both neural networks---as function approximators, and logic programming---as a symbolic processor for objects with properties, relations, logic connectives, and quantifiers. After being trained on small-scale ta
