It is proved in this paper that there is a nonlocal asymptotic splitting (in the integral sense) of the function $Z^4(t)$ into two factors. The corresponding formula cannot be obtained in the known theories of Balasubramanian, Heath-Brown and Ivic.

We study the gravitational collapse of an overdensity of nonrelativistic matter under the action of gravity and a chameleon scalar field. We show that the spherical collapse model is modified by the presence of a chameleon field. In particular, we find that even though the chameleon effects can be potentially large at small scales, for a large enough initial

We investigate the interacting Dirac fermions on honeycomb lattice by cluster dynamical mean-field theory (CDMFT) combined with continuous time quantum Monte Carlo simulation (CTQMC). A novel scenario for the semimetal-Mott insulator transition of the interacting Dirac fermions is found beyond the previous DMFT studies. We demonstrate that the non-local spat

Some nonlinear extensions of the vector maximality statement established by Goepfert, Tammer and Zalinescu [Nonl. Anal., 39 (2000), 909-922] are given. Basic instruments for these are the Brezis-Browder ordering principle [Advances Math., 21 (1976), 355-364] and a (pseudometric) version of it obtained in Turinici [Demonstr. Deterministic processes form an important building block of several classes of processes. We provide a method to classify deterministic Hunt processes. cond-mat.quant-gasC. Ji, L. Platter, D. R. Phillips
We discuss the impact of a finite effective range on three-body systems interacting through a large two-body scattering length. By employing a perturbative analysis in an effective field theory well suited to this scale hierarchy we find that an additional three-body parameter is required for consistent renormalization once range corrections are considered.

We determine the number of cusps of minimal Picard modular surfaces. The proof also counts cusps of other Picard modular surfaces of arithmetic interest. Consequently, for each N > 0 there are finitely many commensurability classes of nonuniform arithmetic lattices in SU(2, 1) that contain an N-cusped surface. We also discuss a higher-rank analogue.

We give an alternative proof of a conjecture of Bollobás, Brightwell and Leader, first proved by Peter Allen, stating that the number of boolean functions definable by 2-SAT formulae is $(1+o(1))2^{\binom{n+1}{2}}$. One step in the proof determines the asymptotics of the number of "odd-blue-triangle-free" graphs on $n$ vertices.

With $G_k(n)$ the number of functions of $n$ boolean variables definable by $k$-SAT formulae, we prove that $G_3(n)$ is asymptotic to $2^{n+\binom{n}{3}}$. GRB 090510 is the first burst detected by the LAT that shows strong evidence for a deviation from a Band spectral fitting function during the prompt emission phase. The
Magnetic Domains in Magnetar Matter as an Engine for Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters and Anomalous X-ray Pulsars
astro-ph.HEIn-Saeng Suh, Grant J. Mathews
Magnetars have been suggested as the most promising site for the origin of observed soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs) and anomalous X-ray pulsars (AXPs). In this work we investigate the possibility that SGRs and AXPs might be observational evidence for a magnetic phase separation in magnetars. We study magnetic domain formation as a new mechanism for SGRs and

We propose a new method to construct confidence intervals for quantities that are associated with a stationary time series, which avoids direct estimation of the asymptotic variances. Unlike the existing tuning-parameter-dependent approaches, our method has the attractive convenience of being free of choosing any user-chosen number or smoothing parameter. Th

We study various aspects of the defect conformal field theory that arises when placing a single M5-brane probe in AdS_4 x S^7. We derive the full set of fluctuation modes and dimensions of the corresponding dual operators. We argue that the latter does not depend on the presence of a non-trivial magnetic flux on the M5-brane world-volume. Finally we give a m

The main objective of this article is to study both dynamic and structural transitions of the Taylor-Couette flow, using the dynamic transition theory and geometric theory of incompressible flows developed recently by the authors. In particular we show that as the Taylor number crosses the critical number, the system undergoes either a continuous or a jump d

We develop the first steps towards an analysis of geometry on the quantum spacetime proposed in [1]. The homogeneous elements of the universal differential algebra are naturally identified with operators living in tensor powers of Quantum Spacetime; this allows us to compute their spectra. In particular, we consider operators that can be interpreted as dista
A Search for Star-Disk Interaction Among the Strongest X-ray Flaring Stars in the Orion Nebula Cluster
astro-ph.SRAlicia N. Aarnio, Keivan G. Stassun, Sean P. Matt
The Chandra Orion Ultradeep Project observed hundreds of young, low-mass stars undergoing highly energetic X-ray flare events. The 32 most powerful cases have been modeled with the result that the magnetic structures responsible for these flares can be many stellar radii in extent. In this paper, we model the observed spectral energy distributions of these 3

Describing by a Hubbard type of model a thin armchair graphene ribbon in the armchair hexagon chain limit, one shows in exact terms, that even if the system does not have flat bands at all, at low concentration a mesoscopic sample can have ferromagnetic ground state, being metallic in the same time. The mechanism is connected to a common effect of correlatio

Protostellar jets are known to emit in a wide range of bands, from radio to IR to optical bands, and to date also about ten X-ray emitting jets have been detected, with a rate of discovery of about one per year. We aim at investigating the mechanism leading to the X-ray emission detected in protostellar jets and at constraining the physical parameters that d
Liquid Phases in SU(3) Chiral Perturbation Theory: Drops of Strange Chiral Nucleon Liquid & Ordinary Chiral Heavy Nuclear Liquid
hep-phBryan W. Lynn
Chiral SU(3) Perturbation Theory (SU3XPT) identifies hadrons as the building blocks of strongly interacting matter at low densities and temperatures. We show that it admits two co-existing chiral nucleon liquid phases at zero external pressure with well-defined surfaces: 1) ordinary microscopic chiral heavy nuclear liquid drops (XNL) and 2) a new Strange Chi

Quasicrystals provide a fascinating class of materials with intriguing properties. Despite a strong potential for numerous technical applications, the conditions under which quasicrystals form are still poorly understood. Currently, it is not clear why most quasicrystals hold 5- or 10-fold symmetry but no single example with 7 or 9-fold symmetry has ever bee

As a material property and as a metaphor, thermal conductivity occupies an important position in physical, biological and geological sciences. Yet, its precise measurement is dependent on using electricity as a proxy because flowing heat cannot directly be measured.

Matrix factorisations describe B-type boundary conditions in N=2 supersymmetric Landau-Ginzburg models. At the infrared fixed point, they correspond to superconformal boundary states. We investigate the relation between boundary states and matrix factorisations in the Grassmannian Kazama-Suzuki coset models. For the first non-minimal series, i.e. for the mod

The addition of non-renormalizable terms involving the Higgs fields to the MSSM ameliorates the little hierarchy problem of the MSSM. For neutralino dark matter, new regions for which the relic abundance of the LSP is consistent with WMAP (as the bulk region and the stop coannihilation region) are now permitted. In this framework, we analyze in detail first

The phase diagram of the first layer of H$_2$ adsorbed on top of a single graphene sheet has been calculated by means of a series of diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC) simulations. We have found that, as in the case of $^4$He, the ground state of molecular hydrogen is a $\sqrt3 \times \sqrt3$ commensurate structure, followed, upon a pressure increase, by an incomme

The standard method of mapping the interstellar medium in a galaxy, by observing the molecular gas in the CO 1-0 line and the atomic gas in the 21-cm line, is largely limited with current telescopes to galaxies in the nearby universe. In this letter, we use SPIRE observations of the galaxies M99 and M100 to explore the alternative approach of mapping the int

We study a one-dimensional toy version of the Chern-Simons theory. We construct its simplicial version which comprises features of a low-energy effective gauge theory and of a topological quantum field theory in the sense of Atiyah.

I discuss two examples of time-dependent flow which can be described in terms of an AdS Schwarzschild black hole via holography. The first example involves Bjorken hydrodynamics which should be applicable to the formation of the quark gluon plasma in heavy ion collisions. The second example is the cosmological evolution of our Universe.
Efficient parameter search for qualitative models of regulatory networks using symbolic model checking

Investigating the relation between the structure and behavior of complex biological networks often involves posing the following two questions: Is a hypothesized structure of a regulatory network consistent with the observed behavior? And can a proposed structure generate a desired behavior? Answering these questions presupposes that we are able to test the

We study a finite Larmor radius model used to describe the ions distributions in the core of a toka-mak plasma, that consist in a gyro-kinetic transport equation, coupled with an electro-neutrality equation. Since the last equation do not provide enough regularity on the electric potential, we introduce a simple linear collision operator adapted to the finit

We explore the LHC phenomenology of the dark matter candidate arising from the extension of warped Higgsless models. In particular, we consider a model of warped supersymmetry in the bulk and on the IR brane in which the lightest Neutralino is rendered stable by an R parity and serves as a realistic cold dark matter candidate. The production of the LSP and N
Compact binary waveform recovery from the cross-correlated data of two detectors by matched filtering with spinning templates
gr-qcL. Veréb, Z. Keresztes, P. Raffai, Zs. Udvari
We investigate whether the recovery chances of highly spinning waveforms by matched filtering with randomly chosen spinning waveforms generated with the LAL package are improved by a cross-correlation of the simulated output of the L1 and H1 LIGO detectors. We find that a properly defined correlated overlap improves the mass estimates and enhances the recove
