This paper focuses on the expressive power of disjunctive and normal logic programs under the stable model semantics over finite, infinite, or arbitrary structures. A translation from disjunctive logic programs into normal logic programs is proposed and then proved to be sound over infinite structures. The equivalence of expressive power of two kinds of logi

We answer an implicit question of Ian Hodkinson's. Extending results of arXiv:1112.3984, we show that all rank 1 N=2 SCFT's in the sequence H_1, H_2, D_4 E_6, E_7, E_8 have canonical finite BPS chambers containing precisely 2 h(F)=12(Delta-1) hypermultiplets. The BPS spectrum of the canonical BPS chambers saturates the conformal central charge c, and satisfies some intriguing numerology.

The human connectome has been widely studied over the past decade. A principal finding is that it can be decomposed into communities of densely interconnected brain regions. This result, however, may be limited methodologically. Past studies have often used a flawed modularity measure in order to infer the connectome's community structure. Also, these st

We present a review of cosmological solutions in non-linear massive gravity, focusing on the stability of perturbations. Although homogeneous and isotropic solutions have been found, these are now known to suffer from either Higuchi ghost or a new non-linear ghost instability. We discuss two approaches to alleviate this issue. By relaxing the symmetry of the

The pion-mass dependence of the nucleon mass within the covariant SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory both without and with explicit Delta(1232) degrees of freedom up to order p^4 is investigated. By fitting to lattice QCD data in 2 and 2+1 flavors from several collaborations, for pion masses M_pi < 420 MeV, we obtain low energy constants of natural size

Let $Λ$ be a finite dimensional algebra and $G$ be a finite group whose elements act on $Λ$ as algebra automorphisms. Under the assumption that $Λ$ has a complete set $E$ of primitive orthogonal idempotents, closed under the action of a Sylow $p$-subgroup $S \leqslant G$. If the action of $S$ on $E$ is free, we show that the skew group algebra $ΛG$ and $Λ$ h

We present the results of an intense photometric monitoring in the near-infrared (~0.9 microns) with the TRAPPIST robotic telescope of the newly discovered binary brown dwarf WISE J104915.57-531906.1, the third closest system to the Sun at a distance of only 2 pc. Our twelve nights of photometric time-series reveal a quasi-periodic (P = 4.87+-0.01 h) variabi
Mice Infected with Low-virulence Strains of Toxoplasma gondii Lose their Innate Aversion to Cat Urine, Even after Extensive Parasite Clearance

Toxoplasma gondii chronic infection in rodent secondary hosts has been reported to lead to a loss of innate, hard-wired fear toward cats, its primary host. However the generality of this response across T. gondii strains and the underlying mechanism for this pathogen mediated behavioral change remain unknown. To begin exploring these questions, we evaluated

We examine the structure of the turbulence boundary of a temporal plane jet at $Re=5000$ using statistics conditioned on the enstrophy. The data is obtained by direct numerical simulation and threshold values span 24 orders of magnitude, ranging from essentially irrotational fluid outside the jet to fully turbulent fluid in the jet core. We use two independe

We investigate whether an arbitrary base for a dense-in-itself topological space can be partitioned into two bases. We prove that every base for a T_3 Lindelöf topology can be partitioned into two bases while there exists a consistent example of a first countable, 0-dimensional, Hausdorff space of size continuum and weight ω_1 which admits a point countable

Inspired by bordered Floer homology, we describe a type A structure on a Khovanov homology for a tangle, which complements the type D structure in a previous paper. The type A structure is a differential module over a certain algebra. This can be paired with the type D structure to recover the Khovanov chain complex. The homotopy type of the type A structure
Origin and Transport Signatures of Spin-Orbit Interactions in One- and Two-Dimensional SrTiO$_3$-Based Heterostructures

We study origin of Rashba spin-orbit interaction at SrTiO$_3$ surfaces and LaAlO$_3$/SrTiO$_3$ interfaces by considering the interplay between atomic spin-orbit coupling and inversion asymmetry at the surface or interface. We show that, in a simple tight-binding model involving 3d $t_{2g}$ bands of Ti ions, the induced spin-orbit coupling in the $d_{xz}$ and

We describe the first part of a gluing theory for the bigraded Khovanov homology with integer coefficients. This part associates a type D structure to a tangle properly embedded in a half-space and proves that the homotopy class of the type D structure is an invariant of the isotopy class of the tangle. The construction is modeled off bordered Heegaard-Floer

One of the main bottlenecks in gravitational wave (GW) astronomy is the high cost of performing parameter estimation and GW searches on the fly. We propose a novel technique based on Reduced Order Quadratures (ROQs), an application and data-specific quadrature rule, to perform fast and accurate likelihood evaluations. These are the dominant cost in Markov ch

We consider inflation driven near a saddle point in a higher dimensional field space, which is the most likely type of slow roll inflation on the string theoretical landscape; anthropic arguments need to be invoked in order to find a sufficiently flat region. To give all inflatons large masses after inflation and yield a small but positive cosmological const
