The stability of word embedding algorithms, i.e., the consistency of the word representations they reveal when trained repeatedly on the same data set, has recently raised concerns. We here compare word embedding algorithms on three corpora of different sizes, and evaluate both their stability and accuracy. We find strong evidence that down-sampling strategi

We construct parameter sets of the relativistic mean-field model fitted to the recent constraints on the asymmetry energy $J$ and the slope parameter $L$ for pure neutron matter. Commonly used drop-based channel models cannot satisfy the requirements of spatial consistency for millimeter-wave (mmWave) channel modeling where transient motion or closely-spaced users need to be considered. A channel model having \textit{spatial consistency} can capture the smooth variations of channels, when a user moves, or when multiple users are clos

Color separations (most often cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) are commonly used in printing to reproduce multi-color images. For mechanical reasons, these color separations are generally not perfectly aligned with respect to each other when they are rendered by their respective imaging stations. This phenomenon, called color plane misregistration, causes g

The vast amount of spectrum available for millimeter wave (mmWave) wireless communication systems will support accurate real-time positioning concurrent with communication signaling. This paper demonstrates that accurate estimates of the position of an unknown node can be determined using estimates of time of arrival (ToA), angle of arrival (AoA), as well as

The aim of this paper is to provide a novel proof for the Local Semicircle Law for the Wigner ensemble. The core of the proof is the intensive use of the algebraic structure that arises, i.e. resolvent expansions and resolvent identities. On the analytic side, concentration of measure results and high probability bounds are used. The conclusion is obtained u

We present our analysis of X-ray spectral properties observed from the Seyfrert 1 galactic nucleus NGC~7469 using the RXTE and ASCA observations. We demonstrate strong observational evidence that NGC~7469 undergoes spectral transitions from the low hard state (LHS) to the intermediate state (IS) during these observations. The RXTE observations (1996--2009) s

We study the peculiarities in current-phase relations (CPR) of the SIsFS junction in the region of $0$ to $π$ transition. These CPR consist of two independent branches corresponding to $0-$ and $π-$ states of the contact. We have found that depending on the transparency of the SIs tunnel barrier the decrease of the s-layer thickness leads to transformation o

Neighborhood-based collaborative filtering algorithms usually adopt a fixed neighborhood size for every user or item, although groups of users or items may have different lengths depending on users' preferences. In this paper, we propose an extension to a non-personalized recommender based on confidence intervals and hierarchical clustering to generate g

Let $V, W$ be finite-dimensional orthogonal representations of a finite group $G$. The equivariant degree with values in the Burnside ring of $G$ has been studied extensively by many authors. We present a short proof of the degree product formula for local equivariant maps on $V$ and $W$.

Let E be a local system on a smooth projective curve of genus g with monodromy given by a representation of the symmetric group corresponding to a Young diagram with rows of lengths n_1,n_2,... where n_1 > n_2 + (2g-2), n_2 > n_3 + (2g-2), ..., n_{k-1} > n_k + (2g-2), n_k > n_{k+1} + n_{k+2} + ... + (2g-2). We show that the result of k steps of the Drinfeld-

Young massive star clusters (YMCs, with M $\geq$10$^4$ M$_{\odot}$) are proposed modern-day analogues of the globular clusters (GCs) that were products of extreme star formation in the early universe. The exact conditions and mechanisms under which YMCs form remain unknown -- a fact further complicated by the extreme radiation fields produced by their numero

Rapid and stepwise changes of the magnetic field are often observed during flares but cannot be explained by models yet. Using a 45 min sequence of SDO/HMI 135 s fast-cadence vector magnetograms of the X1 flare on 2014-03-29 we construct, at each timestep, nonlinear force-free models for the coronal magnetic field. Observed flare-related changes in the line-

The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) has observed dozens of millisecond pulsars for over a decade. We have accrued a large collection of dispersion measure (DM) measurements sensitive to the total electron content between Earth and the pulsars at each observation. All lines of sight cross through the solar wind which pr

The Learning Assistant (LA) model supports instructors in implementing research-based teaching practices in their own courses. In the LA model, undergraduate students are hired to help facilitate research-based collaborative-learning activities. Using the Learning About STEM Student Outcomes (LASSO) database, we examined student learning from 112 first-semes

We treat random rank-$D$ tensor models as $D$-dimensional quantum field theories---tensor field theories (TFT)---and review some of their non-perturbative methods. We classify the correlation functions of complex tensor field theories by boundary graphs, sketch the derivation of the Ward-Takahashi identity and stress its relevance in the derivation of the to

The increasing incorporation of Artificial Intelligence in the form of automated systems into decision-making procedures highlights not only the importance of decision theory for automated systems but also the need for these decision procedures to be explainable to the people involved in them. Traditional realist accounts of explanation, wherein explanation
